Is it a symptom of emasculation that a beard has become manly?
Is it all a lot of men have left to demonstrate their manliness?

Should be left to the homeless and union bosses IMO.

More like a symptom of wanting to feel clean.

pc disclaimer - for me personally, does not reflect on the feelings of those bearded individuals for whom a beard is a lifestyle choice, enjoy beards sensibly.

Ive had plenty of people moan about my beard, but then I tilt my head back, laugh, stroke it and tell them to jog on if they cant handle the awesomeness...

this is a good point though.

it does multiply the force of any bastardry or heroism.

I suppose the main reason I have a beard sometime is that it's a lot easier than shaving regularly. Pretty pro-beard myself though, or an unshaven look.

I have a beard around my penis

I had one for a few months until about a fortnight ago, out of laziness more than anything.

Unfortunately, I'm one of those freaks with brown hair but a ginger beard. I just felt ashamed, it had to go.

Had to clean shave last week for an interview, never again :( in the process of growing it back now, I look about 12... Bar the full head of grey hair :/

Generally I think beards look great, I tend to favour a less clean-cut look anyway. But, there's no denying that they're also very handy for the more...facially deficient gentlemen: you look better looking with a beard because it covers up your funny looking face and creates a kind of Schrodinger's cat of a face instead, for all anyone knows, you're good looking. The people who like or don't have strong feelings about beards are going to fancy you more and the people who don't like beards probably wouldn't fancy you anyway, because of your funny looking face.

Any manliness a beard affords is normally undone by the girly clothes and hairstyles.

Told my boyfriend I'd dump him then and there if he shaved it off

I think it's weird that the fashion is for men to be as hairy as possible from the neck up, and totally hairless from the neck down.

What is this fashion? I love a beard on a man, but if my boyfriend ever got rid of his other hair I would run away. I likes my men to be men!!

It just seems that more and more men are waxing their chests and shaving their bits. I don't like it, personally. I'm like you in that I like my men as nature intended.

The only demographics which favour beards are provisional republican terrorists, child-molesters and those with a weak jawline.

I shaved off my beard earlier in the year. When even skangers have beards then you know beard peak has been reached.

It's just fashion, nothing more. Look at photos from the 70s and 80s, everyone had a beard.

Fashion is cyclical, By 2025 it'll be all clean faces again, or maybe we'll go into a moustache era, or a long hair era. Any explanations of "I have a beard because ....." are all wrong. They have a beard because it's fashionable, whether they consciously know it or not, that's the reason they have a beard.

I don't have a beard because on balance I've found it less troublesome to just shave every five days. Plus my wife likes a nice smooth face.

Shaving is for people who can't handle the weight of being a man.

    Shaving also takes more effort

I have to laugh at it. I work in a big company with a dress code and also included beards and what constituted clean shaven etc.

All of a sudden BOD or one of them lads has some designer stubble and now its acceptable in our company.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,635 ✭✭✭Pumpkinseeds

I hate beards, what is it that young lads find so appealing about them? There are so many young fellas with big bushy beards that just age them, badly. From a female perspective beards are ugly, dirty and scruffy looking things, that appear to be food and sweat traps. Shave them off lads, it's not a good look.

It's not that I'm growing a beard. I just never really took to shaving. I trim it every now and then to take it down, but that's it really.

I haven't seen my chin in years :(

OP, this is how I feel if I do a clean shave...

    [url=https://us.v-cdn.net/6034073/uploads/attachments/74885/318357.jpg[/url]

I don't enjoy having a long beard, even if it's 0.5cm long... so instead I retain a permanent stubble look.

Attempting the clean shaven look now for the first time in several years. Main reason I grew one in the first place was because my bathroom resembled a set from a slasher movie whenever I tried to shave my chin, sadly that's still the case...

No, it grows about 5/6mm in that time. Any longer and it starts to get that pre-beard itch, that's why I go with five days between shaves when I can. It's the sweet spot where the shave is nice and smooth and easy. Any earlier and you get this scrappy shave with redness and bleeding everywhere. Much later and I go a little bit insane with all the scratching, and shaving involves having to use a hair clippers to cut it down before shaving.

If you shave every day, who the hell takes 15 minutes to do it, unless you're a werewolf? Wet face, cream on, 20 strokes of a sharp razor, bingo-bango, five minutes.
