    Hi All,

Is it ok to throw in some amino acids with my whey when having a shake?

    Thanks in advance?

How is it a waste? by taking it with whey or just in general? Are they a waste of time?

    Adding aminos to whey.

Aminos are a lot more expensive on a € for € basis. You'd be better off just having another schoop of whey.

Most whey will have amino acids anyway.

that's what I originally thought but was advised to get amino acids in addition to whey.

I have already ordered the amino acids so will give them a whirl.

    Thanks again.

Did the person who advised you to add aminos happen to sell aminos?

If you are going to take both. Might as well take the aminos on their own, to get the most out of rapid absorption.

If they do they did not offer to sell them to me.

Would it matter when I took them (pre/post training) if I were to take them on their own?

Take aminos during your workout. Drink the protein after.

The whey is made up of aminos in chains called polypeptides

Your body breAks the polypeptides down into amino acids, they then get absorbed into the blood stream and brought to the cells in your body.

All you're doing with the aminos is allowing the absorption to happen quicker as the body doesn't have to digest them
As they are small enough to pass through the small intestine and into the bloodstream.

As Hanley said, if you want to take amino acids, take them peri (during) your workout and take the whey after.

All you're doing with the aminos is allowing the absorption to happen gayer as the body doesn't have to digest them.

In summary, too many aminos will make you gay.

I've definitely come across research papers that have looked at whether muscle protein synthesis is greater after whey only or whey + leucine..and the conclusions being that protein synthesis was the same if you ingested whey only or had both whey and leucine.

    So perhaps...save your money.

I'll see if I can dig up any of the papers.

Off the top of my head I've heard a few referred to...

    25-30g whey + 3-4g leucine = no difference

JISSN have some stuff on it I think.

Leucine on it's own between meals is supposed to be a help tho.

I got a free tub of an animo recovery mix.
I throw a scoop into a shaker with water and sipp this in the gym as an intra-workout drink.
