thanks for the info, thats interesting that e-mobile dont charge for calls to landline - im on meteor pre-pay at the moment - although i dont really want to go down the road of diverting calls to the landline

Panasonic do a DECT base-station that allows you to take your landline calls on any Android mobile! This way you could continue to pick up the diverted calls on your mobile (assuming someone else in your house doesn't pick them up first on another handset). It also allows you to use your mobile address book to make calls on your landline. Best of both worlds!

Bet that comes with a hefty price tag, - wonder if its even available in Ireland that DECT phone (Looks ugly too) - I just wish in this day and age I can just get a full 2G and 3G signal in my house (I can understand if not 4G yet) actually from the mobile provider - is it too much to ask for full bars and a decent sound when my mobile phone rings inside the house, quite a few times my mobile wont even ring and it goes straight to voicemail if I have no signal -

I will imagine if comreg detect you using one they would come down like a ton of bricks - I would of thought they could even prosecute someone selling them too
It is the same way that you can buy radio broadcast antennas and equipment in the country. But anyway, that's another story.
ComReg are a funny auld bunch altogether.

not that I can afford the price of the equipment on this site (cheapest unit is €249euro - but it says at the top of the page "Ireland Based Offices - CarrierApproved" - so surely these should be legal to use in Ireland wouldnt they? - would love the chance to get one and try it out, point it to the 3g mast I can see out of my kitchen window and see if I could get full bars 3G signal on my mobile inside my house and garden ;) - but i wont because number one i cant afford it, and number 2 i like to keep on the right side of the law!

Apart from being absolutely illegal, it is unlikely to work for you because it only works on the 1800MHz band. AFAIK the Irish GSM networks tend to use 900MHz band in rural areas for greater coverage, and 1800MHz band in cities and towns for higher density. 3G/UMTS is on 2100MHz so it definitely won't work.

Indoor coverage gets worse with time - not better, because everyone is insulating their houses more. 3G and 4G doesn't help, as 3G is higher frequency and even 4G is only marginally better than 900MHz 2G. If you don't have good 2G performance indoors, you are better off looking for a solution that works over your landline or with VOIP over your landline Broadband.

Ah yes i see 1800Mhz is 2g/EDGE - never mind the dearer one at €1,149.00 tri-band will get 3G :D - so even though they say Carrier Approved, they are still illegal?

No, me daughter has O2 sim (or 48 whatever it is?) and reckons she can get 3G symbol on her phone in the village - But i dont want to go changing providers I want to stay with meteor (for my sins)

I would keep an eye on ebay & check the Chinese tech sites. A repeater costing 300 here is probably less than a 100 direct from China.

the unit I listed above has RFI filters in it as to not interfere with other radio signals or networks so I dont know why they just dont exempt them from a licence over here in Ireland like they have in the UK for this model
