I got in touch to inquire about pricing for the 360mb package, I'm always eager to be on the latest and greatest speeds.

Option a) I'd be forced onto a new package, that would increase my current monthly price from 445 to €95
Option b) I could move to a phone and BB package for €60 a month, but pay a €200 cancellation fee for the Tv. The TV, that I got offered for free, don't pay for, and I'm moving packages within a single company. Thankfully the Irish twitter support acknowledged this was a ludicrous thing to be offered to an existing customer.

Incredibly frustrating how there is just no upgrade options. Literally none. I'm getting the impression they want to try get me off my current offer, which was provided by UPC end of last year with the last price hike.

I haven't received any notice that my current package is subject to the price increase, if it was I'd be on looking to see what offers I could get. While it's by far the best internet provision in the country, I'm starting to become concerned at how they are utilizing this semi-monopoly to their advantage, in terms of gouging extra fees from customers.

If you get hit by the 5e price rise you can break your contract without any penalty.
There is a 360mb bundle on their site for 45 a month for the first 4 months and 95e thereafter that might help you cut the annual cost a bit.

In typical fashion... every part except the case and power supply have arrived. God damnit!

Doesn't really. I pay €45 a month for the remainder of my contract, which is until January 17

unlimited national, mobile and international calls, Horizon Max tv (still in the wrapper) and 240mb Broadband. They basically cold called me August last year and said if I take Horizon TV, for free, they could enable a half price for 12 month plan.

Then when I signed up for mobile in like October, they told me they would give me first three months free for mobile, and keep my package as is with discount, if I signed up until January 17

To be honest I've got a pretty sick deal in reality, I just hate not getting the latest and greatest broadband. I also have their technicolour router which has dog**** wifi, and is luck of the draw it seems to bridge

I wouldn't be in a hurry to move from 240mb to 360mb unless it cost less. We had 7 adults in the house all gaming online or streaming, youtube, torrenting and tbh our old 120mb was more than enough never mind the 240mb. Back in our DSL days a doubling of speed made a huge difference. Something that took 4 hours now took 2. However at these 100mbit+ speeds it's a tv show downloading in 5 minutes instead of 10. The law of diminishing returns has kicked in wrt download speeds....unless of course you do a lot of uploading in which case the 33% increase would be noticeable.

Don't downgrade to the 360mb service. Its god awful. My house mate got it and we had nothing but problems, we ended up going back to 250mb.
The modem is such a piece of ****, I never thought I would want to go back to the horizon box. In the new modem the processor seems to be really under powered as trying to complete anything on it seems to take forever.
Also on speed tests it shows you get the advertised speed but even for it responding to standard internet requests their seems to be a delay before it kicks in and roots traffic correctly.
They also say their is no additional cost to upgrade until it comes to the first months bill where you get charged 60 for the piece of crap modem (I worked in pen testing the likes of these modems, they usually cost 10-15 euros), They also charge you your full old bill plus half a month of the new broadband bill. For the first month it doubled our cost.
Until they remove this piece of crap from the service don't touch it:
    http://arris.force.com/consumers/ConsumerProductDetail?p=a0ha000000REF5TAAX&c=Touchstone%20Modems%20and%20Gateways
This is the benefits we see from Virgin re branding :(.
For the first time since moving to UPC I am considering dumping it.

And this reminds me of why I hate you all.

Try living on 3Mbps wireless sh!tband that is advertised as 8Mbps and costs the same fifty quid a month it did years ago back when it was a true symmetrical 12Mbps up/down connection that was one of the fastest non-corporate packages in Europe... :p

    I hear ya.

I was on 4Mb symmetric for ages. Everyone kept getting 10Mb, then 20, then 25.... I was stuck on "4" (usually about 3.5). It's downright painful.

    Of course, I'm on 240Mb now. :D

I'm picking it up for the upload. But you're right, 120mb in reality is perfect for multiple users.

Just came across a story on Reddit that Pixmania is in receivership since January 14, 2016. French websites are advising not to purchase goods as you may never receive them.

Can't publish links but you can find the story on /r/hardware.

Head up for anyone who uses them, Pixmania are in trouble-as in bankrupcy/receivership. Apparently some people have not had their orders filled, Pixmania are commiting to do so but I would avoid buying anything off them until this bottoms out. They do have the odd decent bargain that can be tempting, personally I never had much look with them-it was a nightmare to RMA a 6970 at one stage.

    edit: missed ReZonator's post..

CIT has a 1Gb link, TCD is a 10Gb core point on the network, he's just not on the 10G kit.

Jesus, thats a bit of overkill. My work has a 10gig proxy link for around 35k people spread over multiple sites.

You'd think so, but TCD (along with the other main universities) have around 20k people on the network with staff and students.

Noob question lads. I got a new sound card and I'm wondering if I just need to download the drivers for or if I first have to delete the audio drivers that are being used by my on board sound? Thanks.
