Itching for an upgrade. Seen Bloodbath posted this http://www.mindfactory.de/product_info.php/2048MB-Asus-Radeon-R9-380-Strix-DirectCU-II-Aktiv-PCIe-3-0-x16--Retail-_1006697.html in a thread and its tempting me.
I noticed they also have special offers, and for that particular card it is a e20 cashback offer. So when it comes to payment, and using paypal, it should work out to about 188 including delivery and paypal fee? Is the e20 cashback just applied as a discount when checking out? Or do they slip a 20 in with the card when sending it? :pac:

You need to be a German or Austrian citizen residing in those countries to avail of those offers sadly.

You can still pick up Star Citizen and some other good games as part of AMD's never settle bundle though which gives you even more value for money. I think you get 2 free games with that card.

Maybe grab 1 or 2 other things to soften the blow of a €30 delivery.

Balls, the e20 cashback wouldve softened the e30 delivery cost. Just aswell, I dont NEED to upgrade, just WANT to. :(

    What's your current card?

Could be worth waiting for the new cards next year but that 380 is really good value.

HD7870, from a build your good self recommended me on here over 2 years ago.

Might be holding on to the 7870 even if I upgrade, pass it on to a family member. If I could sell it it would be much better obviously.

My PC upgrade seems to be the gift that keeps on giving. Fixed Starcraft but so far in the space of three days I've gone from no problems with Subnautica to not even being able to run it for one minute without my PC choking and dying spectacularly.

Might give it an overnight MemTest run but I'm tending toward the 380 as the continuing cause of my troubles. Games and apps that thrash the CPU and RAM haven't caused any mishap but anything that pushed the 380 past the 900MHz mark seems doomed to crash and burn. I'm just hoping its not the CPU or PSU... in any case I doubt I have successfully dodged the RMA fairies this winter after all :(

    1 CPU ....... ????????

Looks to me that there are two CPUs!

I would have expected a tech site to get that much correct!

Ref: 2:00 mins into the video!

Very strange to think Linus doesn't get more than 1 million views in a month considering his level of popularity among the custom PC market.

Love his videos, but have to say, he's very heavy handed at times when building rigs.

Maybe it's because he doesn't pay for them, but for me, when I buy something new for my rig, I'm so careful and delicate with it, it's like I'm doing brain surgery.

I wouldn't watch any of his videos tbf, I still prefer reading about tech rather than watching.

    Each to their own.
A picture is worth a thousand words and a video is worth a thousand pictures.

Oh I know a good few who'd be the same as yourself, but I have to say that his reviews have been handy for myself, especially in terms of choosing which case to go for.

As an example, the OH was looking at getting a new case a few months back, one of the BitFenix line, which when reading about and seeing the pictures looked to be like a great match for what she was looking for. However, when we watched the Linus review of the case we found it was quite a bit bulkier than we expected and the internal size would make the build quite a bit awkward. After a bit more research and a quick video she ended up going with the NZXT Source 340 which is literally perfect for her.

Hi, can anyone recomend a budget motherboard for a FX6300.
Am building a rig for a buddy who is broke and I dont have a board to go with the processor im donating him. He doesnt need bells and whistles, just a simple reliable board. Will probably buy from Amazon to get past silly shipping from some sites.
    Thanks folks

Something like this could be very good

Edit: That's an ATX, so just make sure it'll fit the case.

Quick question: just bought a 7970 graphics card and went to install it only to realise my psu only has 2x 6 pin pci-e power cables whereas the gfx card requires 2x 8 pin cables.

Can I just use the two 6 pin cables as is or do I need an adapter?

The psu is a 600w ocz stealth xtreme so the main problem is that it is just old rather than a newer cheap brand so it should be able to handle the power requirements.

Or do I need to bite the bullet and buy a new psu?

Actually, that is just one cpu, but two physical processors. They work in tandem, no real difference when talking about quad-core cpu's and multiple threads.

Early in the video he calls it 7 gamers, 1 tower and referred to his other video as 2 gamers, 1 CPU. He knows the difference so it's just a simple oversight. Given how many late nights and long hours he probably had setting that thing up it's understandable enough.

Whereabouts would you recommend to buy cases from?

Not much on looks myself. Normal cheapo atx works for me.

Bitfenix used to do a couple budget ones that were decent all-rounders, they should be available from almost anywhere so take a look around for pricing I suppose.

You can get 6 pin to 8 pin converter cables or molex to 8 pin. Even though 6 pin is rated for 75w each and 8 pin is 150w each it will be fine if the PSU is decent which your psu seems to be.

Amazon is probably your best bet as they offer free delivery on anything sold directly by Amazon.

Theres a "how much is my pc worth" thread for this, but I'd say about right. Limerick isnt huge so you may have to be patient if you want a decent sale price and not give it to a lowballer.

    Seems very reasonable to me!

Went into CEX today to trade in an old GTX560Ti, left it with them for testing, came back and was told it had failed the test.

Really, I said, that's surprisingly because it was working perfectly until I brought it in here - how did it fail? I was told it was overheating.

Like turning off, I asked? Shutting down? No, the guy said, it just reaches super high temperatures way beyond what we can accept.

    This mad temperature? 70c.

They sell crazy mad power hungry hot cards there, GTX470, GTX480, HD6990, etc, so there is no way that 70c could be a standard! But the guy wasn't having any of it, 70c is overheating and they can't take it.

Wow, wonder how he got the job decided things like that. Clearly hasn't got the knowledge base for it. Surprised he even knew how to read the temperature of it.

What's the max speed the Virigin Media Thompson router can push out over Wi-Fi? I'm on the 120 mbps package and only get a maximum of 50 mbps through my laptop with dual band wifi. It's the same story with my phone. The router is set to 802.11 wireless N.

Is this just because the router is sh*t or is there a wireless setting I can change? thanks.
