anyone know where I can pick up a reasonably priced second hand i7 4770k?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,617 ✭✭✭Revoker88

Did you look at Lenovo Yoga 2? Some good prices on that knocking around.

I had a look at the Yoga Tab 3,this one:

    http://www.pcworld.ie/Mobile/Product/lenovo-yoga-tab-3-10-16-gb-black/329107/401.12.0

Nice tablet, reviewed well and seems to be well regarded, the deciding factor for me was its resolution,1280 x 800,i wanted something a little higher. Its is 10" though and felt nice in the hand if a little heavy, the stand felt pretty good but does add that bit of weight.

I did see the Tab 2 going for a good price in argos, but as you cant actually handle it before buying it and other stores didnt have it for sale i couldnt comment on it really other than what ive read

GPU has started artifacting , so can't wait any longer , pulled the trigger on a sapphire 380 2Gb , 170€ best bang for buck deal I could find. http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/components/amdradeongraphicscards/amdr9380series/11242-02-20g.html#utm_source=tradedoubler&utm_medium=affiliate&utm_campaign=1018132_HotUKDeals
Overclockers have some at the same price too now..
They'e usually around 220 on amazon and dabs etc.
What's your current GPU? Am I right in saying that it's an AMD/ATI GPU running the latest drivers?

If that is right then, it appears the drivers might be the cause of the artifacting, being cause by over heating.

Looking for some advice in a Xmas present.
Going to get a few steam games for someone but here are the things to consider.
They only play civ 2 and red alert. Also they have no graphics card and the PC is a good few years old. Do looking for recommendations on similar titles that will be playable on their PC.
    Thanks.

How old is old? GOG might be a better bet than steam.

    I'd say pre 2010 anyway.

If you can sneakily get spec details from them it might be worth doing. It's hard to make recommendations as the games they're playing are from 1996 - so there's ~14 years or so their machine could come in under.

Alpha Centauri is probably a safe enough bet (released in 1999 and considered a genre classic - also same lead devs as Civ2).

Those games are so old that a Pentium 133mhz would have been top of the line when they were released!

I'd say a gift card for GOG.com would be a solid bet, let them chose themselves. I doubt spec's of the machine are a concern unless he suddenly decides to play recent strategy games....which seems unlikely as he's 20 years to catch up on first!

Why do amazon still insist on using iparcel/fastway for delivery of certain items? My nvidia shield shipped in two packages, remote in one and console in the other. For some reason the remote shipped via an post while the console via iparcel/fastway. Fastway are claiming they've attempted delivery twice in the last two days, they haven't come near my house or even called me. They're also not responding to phone calls or emails. Not a happy camper.

Deal with Amazon, let them hound fastway

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,170 ✭✭✭✭ED E

They're a complete joke. Fastway is just a front for loads of independent drivers and they do zero QC. I suspect drivers sit in bed on a friday clicking "delivery attempted" and leave sh1t for next week. Amazon are not known to be fools, so I suspect iParcel in the UK functions ok and its just a side effect in the republic that f'cks us completely.

Anyone recommend a courier that isn't extortionate for shipping back to Mindfactory?

Worst fears come true, fan headers on the motherboard for my sons Christmas present is faulty. Obviously at this stage, speedy delivery back to them is key if I'm to have any hope of getting a replacement or refund to buy a replacement before the big day.

oh god, I've got iParcel EU handling mine from Amazon.Fr....

Got a couple "we miss you" voucher codes from Hardwareversand if anyone wants them? €10 off a €200 spend and €20 off a €500 spend. Can be stacked apparently

The return should be of no cost to you, ask them to organize, or ring them and ask if you can claim back afterwards.
Under Irish law and EU law as transposed in Ireland there are legal rights entitling us to seek redress where an item is faulty, these statutory rights apply regardless of whether an item has a warranty or not. Under these laws, consumers have up to six years to seek redress for faulty or defective items (both new and second-hand)where an item is faulty, the seller may first offer a repair or replacement item. If this is not possible or fails to correct the problem, a refund may then be provided. Remedies for faulty goods must be provided free of charge.

"Warranties, or guarantees as they may also be known, are provided by the seller or manufacturer of an item. These differ from statutory rights in that the terms are largely set by the seller or manufacturer itself. It is important to note that warranties exist in addition to consumers’ statutory rights but do not replace them. If, for instance, a particular fault with the product is not covered by a warranty, the consumer may still rely on his or her statutory rights to seek a remedy."
Shipping costs should be covered by the manufacturer as the unit was not fit for use

What version of Display Port should I gun for if I want to push 1920x1080 resolution @ 120fps?

I know I should avoid RBR but would 1.1 sort me out?

What's the story with replacing the motherboard + CPU on a Windows 10 license that was upgraded from a Win7 OEM install? Hearing conflicting reports and want to know if anyone has experience with this.

Deactivate the key first, change the hardware, re activate the key.

Time and speed is the issue for me. If I've to mess around convincing them to pay for the return I'll miss Christmas. I'm happy to pay for it but I want it there quickly and safely so just wondering if anybody has any recommendations for courier to use if they've sent stuff back. I'll have to argument about reimbursement of costs later.

I've used An Post to send a graphics card back to EVGA in Germany before. It was quick and hassle free.

An Post to Deutsche Post by priority will be pretty quick though DHL will likely be slightly faster as no handoff.

    Good times.

Finished cleaning my old case, just had a little root-around to find some of the stuff that goes inside it.

I have now confirmed that the SSD drive tray adaptor has vanished into thin air and the old CPU cooler has had its LGA115x mount shattered.

    Great start to the build.
