What herbal based remedies you can buy in the health shop do people find are the best for helping you to be able to get to sleep at night and/or if you wake up during the night to fall back to sleep and get good nights sleep

They're seem to be lot of them so not sure which one people find are the best

Have lot of stuff going on at moment and find that when go to bed mind starts racing and I start to panic and worry and then just end up twisting and turning and having restless sleep

    Thanks

If you're having strong feelings of anxiety or having panic attacks you should go to see your GP and not waste your time with a snake oil shop.

Have you tried that sleep spray stuff? Typically smells like lavender and you spray it on your pillow.

Also, don't watch telly in bed, put your phone away before you hit the hay, and meditation can be a fantastic method of clearing the mind to help you nod off.

I feel your pain, I've been there myself. But unfortunately the only thing for it is working through the issues that are keeping you awake. Easier said than done, says you. I know.

What will be a huge help though is getting out for a walk in the evening. Doesn't have to be a particularly strenuous one, just a light stroll. Not only does it release the happy endorphins, you'll clear your head and the fresh air will knock you right out. Also swimming, works a dream (see what I did there).

Health shop-wise, I suppose lavender is the main one.

You've always got a good old fashioned warm glass of milk and a bath trick.

Magnesium Citrate. Not herbal but does the job.

Usually it's the lack of confidence in ones ability to go to sleep that is the main problem. If you get into bed thinking it will be hard to sleep then you are foooooooooooooked.

I have heard that listening to static can help as you begin to focus on the continuous sound and your mind goes blank.

Make a list of the things keeping you awake. It saves you trying to juggle them in your mind.

Or if you have a mini ritual just before you go to bed eg locking up house/putting the dogs in, try and do it an hour earlier.

Actually the one thing that makes me fully awake is brushing my fecking teeth. I could be about to collapse from fatigue and then after brushing I am wired damn you minty toothpaste

Magnesium Citrate. Not herbal but does the job.

    I agree with this.
It's usually sold as zinc and magnesium or the slightly more expensive version, ZMA.
    I get mine from myprotein

Lavender oil really does help, put a few drops (not too much) on your pillow.

Do you have a smart phone/table?
Download a mindfullness or sleep app, lots of free ones and they help too.
    Guided sleep.

I've finally managed to sort out my sleeping patterns after years of being an insomniac. I completely know that feeling of just lying in bed and feeling wired. Stuff that helped me

    ZMA, or transdermal magnesium

Melatonin (not sure if ya can get it at home, I'm in Oz)

Cutting out caffeine except a very small bit in the morning.

If you're dieting/exercising hard, try doing carb refeed days or just having some carbs shortly before bed time. (Healthy carbs, not sugary junk)

I installed F.Lux on my laptop. It slightly changes the rays emitted from the screen so that your eyes are no longer deceived into thinking it's daytime. Takes a while to get used to but it seems to work!

I also started wearing a comfortable sleeping mask. This is a big help.
