Think this thread is needed to distinguish from the Hailo app thread as people are getting the codes mixed up and stuff.

    Android app

    iPhone app

Promo code: <Snip> is currently valid for €20 travel discount until november 2014 I think. For new accounts only also I think.

If that doesn't work, try code <Snip - No referral codes allowed - read the charter>

Is there any codes lying about for existing users?

If you come across any other codes floating about, let us know about it in this thread

Use <Snip - No referral codes allowed> for €20 Uber credit

Go to payment from the menu at the top left of your screen and if you have credit it will be there

Is that for first time users only?

Yes I think so. Most Uber codes are first time only.

    of course, why wouldn't you?

    Try this code: <snip>

Just download the app and enter the promo code for 25 euro off your first trip.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 507 ✭✭✭balfe1990

Please, note whether the code you are posting is applicable for existing users.

There's no point having a thread with a million different codes that you can only use for your first trip.

Clearly stating that the code you are sharing can be used AFTER your first trip is what we want.

Doesn't seem to show anything for me there

but when I try and enter another promotion code, it said theres one already valid on the account.

If these were true discount links than I think the answer is sure.

However most of these are referal links that give the person behind it 20€ per person that uses his code. In effect, every time someone uses that referal link posted to get 20€ free, the person behind it get's 20€ in credit too.

I find it bad form not to share that info when giving out a referal code, i think posters should make clear that every time someone uses their 20€ code they also receive 20€. Just so that people understand how these codes come about.

If you use a €20 code, but the trip is only €10 or whatever, does the remaining €10 credit stay on your account for the next use or is it all gone on your first use?

if you use a code that gives your account €20 credit you will still have €10 credit for the next time you use it,
there are other promo's that will give you a free 1st time trip up to €20 so if its only a €10 trip the the extra balance wont be there for your next trip

I was thinking this but wasn't sure what people were getting out of it. I would have zero problems with it if people were up front about it.

    From Uber today:

"Open your Uber app and enter the promo code "Dublin6NL" to get €20 off one trip to or from Ranelagh or Rathmines!"

Open to all users, and not a referral code!

What a random promotion. Thanks all the same but why limit it to Ranelagh/Rathmines?

It'll be a deal made with local businesses in those areas, guaranteed. Uber aren't seriously going to offer €20 off any trip anywhere, for example  :D.

Yup, if you present your Uber "receipt" to a number of businesses in the area, you got discounts, BOGOF, 10% off etc.

I have some referral credit built up, does anyone know if I'll be able to use that in another country such as Barcelona in Spain?

Edit: tweeted uber they said no problem and came back to me really quickly, I've been quite impressed with their service so far I have to say!

Dealt with hailo a couple of times and they were quite good too

Used the 20 euro rathmines promotion the other night. Went from Rathmines to Bray and it was only 21 euro meaning I only got charged a euro off my card! Really cheap as usually it'd be 30-35 euro.

I'm missing something here but why was the actual fare so cheap?

Theyre cheaper than traditional taxis, by a pretty wide margin.

Taxi drivers (in this country, every uber driver has to have an actual valid taxi license unlike the States, where any Tom, Dick or Harry can be an uber driver, provided they meet Ubers requirements) take the hit. Uber takes 20% of total fare.

They also round down the final fare to the euro.

Did you use the normal Uber or the Uber-x for this? I'm flying back into Dublin tonight anf I wouldn't mind using the free €20 fare to get me to Rathmines.

UberX is the one I used. That's the one that's cheaper than general taxis too.

On the iPhone App UberX is the default choice anyway.

What's the other Uber like? The non-X.

Never tried it but think it's the fancier black car one that costs a little more than normal.

If it's a bargain your after stick with Uber X (quoted €23-€29) as Uber Black is more than twice the price and would cost you €46-€58 from the airport to Rathmines..... But with €20 off would be not much more than a regular taxi but your getting a chauffeur.

    Uber X
    Everyday cars for everyday use.
Better, faster, and cheaper than a taxi.
    €3 Base Fare
    €0.33 a min + €0.53km
(€5 min fare, €5 cancellation fee)

    Uber Black
Your own private driver, on demand.
Expect pickup in a high-end sedan within minutes.
    €6 Base Fare
    €0.65 a min + €1.25km
(€15 min fare, €10 cancellation fee)

I had to get an a Uber Black car once because there were no Uber Xs in the area and I was in a rush.

Seriously lovely BMW picked me up and the driver was a gent.

10 min/2km drive cost me 15 notes though, so more expensive than traditional taxi by a fair bit!

Iv just signed up for Uber, they are doing a deal where you get €20 free travel credit if you use the voucher number "€20FreeUberCredit".

Theres also supposed to be some other thing about splitting a fare with a friend and getting 50% off.

To be honest getting a little free here and there is the only way I can see myself being able to get around during the strike, its ridiculous! Dublin is going to come to a halt!

    Doesn't work for me.

I've used Uber in New York City over New Year's holiday and the prices varied based on time of day/night plus there was a surcharge on New Year's Eve. It was all shown ahead of time so pretty transparent but was wondering if also in Ireland prices vary based on holidays, day/night, maybe even supply/demand?
Further question: how do you get picked up by Uber from the airport? Isnt there a fee that they need to pay (like taxis) to pick people up there?
