    Hi All,

I recently was given a PS3 from a family member as he has emigrated but it does not work, is there anywhere that would buy it off me. The problem with the console is when I turn it on it powers up for a couple of seconds and then turns off. I dont have use for it and was wondering is there any sort of repair places that might be interested in taking it off me.

Also I also got some games (12) with it what sort of cash would I get for these (Grand Theft Auto IV, Medal of honour, Need for Speed etc), they are all in perfect condition and come with a box and instruciton manual.

    Thanks,

    JD

PS I am in no way trying to sell the console via boards and am just looking for information.

Try donedeal for the games, if that fails go into Gamestop or Xtravision but prepare to be fleeced.

Is it a 60gb version ?. You will know because the front of the console is chrome rather than silver on the 40gb version . The 60 gb also has a door on the front left that opens to insert various memory cards.

If it is either of the above consoles ,the fix is an easy one ,all you need is a heatgun and some thermal paste to sort it ...I've done loads .

You will sell it on Adverts ,but do not expect much . If the warranty sticker is intact (black sticker on the end of the console) you could probably get as much as €40 if it is a 60gb version... if its the 40 you will get less.

The price of second hand working PS3's is quite low these days...about €80 for a slim low hd capacity one on Adverts if you haggle hard.

    Hope this helps.

I'de say its the laser. Its a very common problem with them . depending on the model of drive you have, you should be able to pick a laser up for about 30ish ( there are a few on Adverts for sale, you will need to find out wich exact model disk drive you have) . You will need to swap out the internals of the CD/BR drive and keep your daughter board from your original Cd deck as that is the one mated to your PS motherboard...Do not throw out your broken CD/BR drive.

Read this,it should point you in the right direction.
