6 Nations tickets

    Hey folks.

A group of us were batting around the idea of taking a trip to Edinburgh next year to try to make it to the Ireland/Scotland match in the six nations.

We've not gone abroad for any matches before, so I'm not sure how these things tend to work, and I wasn't hoping someone here might be able to elighten me.

From what I can see, there aren't any tickets on general release for this match yet and they'll have to go through the associations and clubs first before that happens.

After all I said and done, will there be many left on the open market, or is it going to be extremely hard to pick anything up for a reasonable price?

    Thanks in advance.

Hi, You can get tickets from the Scottish Rugby Union site.

    https://www.eticketing.co.uk/scottishrugby/details/event.aspx?itemref=3639

Non on sale at the moment but if you register on the site information will be sent to you when tickets are available. Purchase them in the usual way. If I remember correctly they do not send tickets to overseas destinations but you pick them up at the ticket office.

    Great weekend btw.

Just checked the prices of flights. Good grief.

It is quite annoying that the Scotland tickets are on general sale at the moment. With the exception of the Ireland game all of Scotland's autumn internationals and 6 nations tickets are on general sale. The only way currently to get Scotland vs Ireland tickets is if you buy a season pass

Scottish Rugby Union are cashing in the fact the Ireland game is the only game that seems to sell out - England excepted. We have gone over every time since about 2003 and have never failed to pick up tickets. Just be patient and they will go on general release soon enough.

It's a cracking weekend by the way, never fails to disappoint!

Thanks - will register now and bide my time...

Yeah - flights look a wee bit pricey alright, but I suppose that comes with the territory. Can imagine there's a premium on hotel beds too.

Yeah, Edinburgh is a great place for a weekend at the best of times... having a rugby match added to the mix (and one that has the potential to be an important fixture) would make it all the better. It's no harm that it falls the weekend after my 30th birthday, either :D

Take a look at the ibis hotels - they don't seem to come up in hotels.com, go direct to the ibis website. They are a lot cheaper than the rest. 2 budget hotels for about €133 per night and one new "ibis Styles" hotel in Andrew Square €166. Good reviews all round, and very central.

Re flights, the ex Dublin flights seems to be upwards of €250 for any way decent times. If Belfast international is accessible, the fares are half that.

I'm having the same problem trying to get tickets for the away Wales game in Cardiff.

Tickets not on sale here yet
    http://www.wru.co.uk/eng/tickets/index.php

Even when they do go on sale, not sure do they sell them online or through the clubs?

Don't the IRFU get an allocation that are sold through the Supporters club?

Good choice - we went to Edinburgh two years ago and had a ball - lovely city and great to be able to walk out to the stadium. Nice folk too. We had a brilliant weekend. I bought my tickets on line and had to ring the SRU at a later stage to have them delivered to Dublin.

    Enjoy!

Rather than starting another thread, i'll continue here.

I'm looking for tickets for the some home games in the 6 nations.

I'm not in a rugby club nor am i a season ticket holder.

Does anyone have any advice or will it be pot luck if/when they go on general sale?

    Thanks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,300 ✭✭✭✭razorblunt

There's never any hassle getting tickets for the Ireland game from the SRU, the only issue you might run into is having to be 3 sets of three. They generally go on sale towards the end of September.

Hotel wise there are alot of new ones opened up recently, Tune Hotel in Haymarket is only a 20 minute walk. Motel One down by the train station is another option too. Don't bother with the tram, it's a sweaty mess, enjoy a wee pub crawl and the atmosphere on the walk up instead. Ibis have opened a new place on Andrew Square too.

Another sneaky option for a hotel might be the Holiday Inn in Blackhall, it's a downhill twenty minute walk to Murrayfield, only drawback would be a taxi to/from the city or a ten minute ride on the bus.

6 nations tickets dont go on general sale.

Only other option apart from clubs is buy online but you will be paying at a premium

Do you mean having to book the tickets three at a time, rather than all in one go? Not ideal but I'm sure we can deal with it!

Do they only allow three per card or just per booking?

We stayed in a Premier Inn in Haymarket earlier this year - did the job and wasn't too dear. If the numbers work out we might look at something through AirBnB, but will get the tickets and flights sorted first!

All three home games did go on general sale this year. Will likely be a different kettle of fish next year with England and France visiting though.

Yeah that Premier Inn is ideal alright.

I think it's 8 tickets max per booking.

A small amount of returns from clubs etc went on sale for the games versus Scotland and Italy. I don't think any went on general sale for Wales but I remain corrected on this. It's a gamble for those not involved in the game to assume they will come up as it's literally the leftovers that they are getting. All one can do is wait and see.

I was lucky enough to buy Tickets to the Wales match on ticketmaster in January. It was by chance that I checked.

I can't imagine any of the home games next year will go on general sale, but I will be hoping they will so I can get some.

Last year was my first year buying six nations tickets for the home matches - I bought through the Ireland supporters club. I had no trouble getting my tickets, but several people told me that it would probably be harder this season - always is when England and France come to town. Understandable, I suppose.

Supporters club is very hit and miss too. When you get them, it's easy but when you don't it's painful. Pure luck defines the category you fall into.

    From IRFU website
    RBS 6 Nations 2015
Tickets for Ireland's home matches in the RBS 6 Nations are distributed through Irish rugby clubs and to the visiting Unions.

If any tickets are returned for these games then they will be made available through the Irish Rugby Supporters Club.

Tickets for Ireland's away matches in the RBS 6 Nations are distributed through Irish rugby clubs only and are not normally otherwise available.

Ticket prices for RBS 6 Nations 2015 are not yet available.

If I understand the above correctly, it looks like the Supporters Club won't be offering any tickets for the home games.

In that case, I blew €50 back in February.....

Yep, always the issue of the home France/England years. You might be lucky tho, and if there is returns you'll be more luckier than most.

they are just covering themselves as that is technically how it works...as they always say "no guarantee of tickets"

but there has always been a sale

    Here is the 2011 one:

Never had any issues getting tickets myself via the IRFU supporters club and usually someone will want to trade or sell spares at face value on their forum too. Myself and a few friends would buy one membership between us to get access to it. Not a member this year though so I don't know if its become more difficult or not.

Prices for the England/France games at the Aviva are as follows...
    • Premium €131
    • Category 4 €97
    • Category 3 €87
    • Category 2 €72
    • Category 2 €57

Note that these prices may vary if your club adds on a booking fee/levy.

Tickets for Scotland - Ireland have now moved to "season pass" ticket holders only.
    What a shambles.
Don't know what they're hoping to gain from this.

Nah, it's said that for ages. Have to wait for tickets to go on general sale, which hasn't happened yet

Tickets are not currently on sale. A sell-out in 2013, we expect high demand and the only way to guarantee a seat at this stage, is through the Scotland Season Pass.

They are prices sans LB levy. Some clubs have been known to waive it; others add to it or charge a little less.

And as for what Ticketmaster add to it....

I'd say you could count on two hands the number of clubs who waive or absorb the 2e branch levy! Your prices were spot on, but the premium are 132 and not 131 as indicated in original post. Essentially tics up a fiver on 2013 fixtures...

Tickets for the Italy game are freely available via www.ticketone.it, this is the official source so if you're not too worried about sitting in the Irish fans section, give it a go.

It the equivalent of a PPS number.:D Water protest numpties would love that one! 'Give my Codice Fiscale to buy a rugby ticket ! Lets march on Montecitorio!'. Italians use it all the time. And the sky hasnt fallen on their heads.

Its not obligatory to give it though. You should be able to buy without filling in that one.
