You do know they pay way over a grand in council tax and thats just the working class areas?
Well you could make that up by paying about 20 visits to the GP each year, not very common?

- They're a real lot of dosh, really a lot of loadsamonies in fact.

It depends where you live in England but it is far more expensive in general. Despite what people say, the RoI is still a cheap place to live. Much as a love London, it is an incredibly expensive place to live.

It is correct. I work for a british multinational in Ireland. I occasionally am seconded to the UK where I fall under the UK tax system whilst working there. I pay considerably less tax in the UK on the same earnings than I would here. I can make a direct comparison.

The tax bands are completely different. You need to be earning considerably more to hit the higher tax rates in the UK. And there is not the USC sucking up another chunk.

Council tax in a crap area of Liverpool would be around 1k per year on a salary of someone getting 12k per which is min wage its quiet a lot
Then you got water charges
Car tax however is cheaper

No bin charges as its in council tax
total 2096.27 pounds per year

Dont forget they pay higher prsi etc too in the UK on 600 pounds a week they took around 200 from tax and prsi there

The council tax bands aren't based on the current value,they are based on the value in 1991, the year before council tax was introduced. So on a house currently worth 100k it would probably be less than that, especially outside London.

If you live alone you get a 25% discount and also if you earn less than a certain amount a week or are on benefits

That council tax figure is a chunk higher than I'd expect. Our 2 bed house in Romford (london borough of havering) is worth about £220k and council tax is ~£1300. It does seem steep at first but I can get a basic weekly shop here for £30 and I was drinking pints for £2.39 last night so that stuff helps even it up. Also got a root canal done for £240 a couple of years ago!

When I lived in London, the council tax on the 2 bed flat we rented in chiswick was £1700. Outside of London I'd expect it to be a lot less.

Cost of living is a lot less there, definitely cheaper than Ireland. And the NHS is brilliant. I'd move back there tomorrow if I could
