    Coyle looks good!
Only NI fight I've seen so far though.

Watched most of them yesterday and today. Barnes Conlan v sharp. Lads yesterday did very well too. One of the women made hard work of it

Barnes has been very good. Will be a good scrap with him and the Indian if they get through. Anyone see Anthony Fowler for England? A lot of talk about him.

Yeah saw his last fight, v strong, but god you can't make out a word he says

Conlon through to the final after a cut. That's two he's had now. To expect a boxer to go through a tournament, with the possibility of fighting 5 times without attaining a cut is a bit of a fallacy.I think they need to be back the headgaurds.

Agree completely. There's even a danger Conlon could miss the final if he doesn't pass the medical.

Stick the headguards back on silly otherwise you will have winners losing out in later rounds. Pro boxers don't fight so frequently

Apparently they removed the headguards to help prevent head injurys

    Internal head injuries yes.

External (less severe) injuries more likely.

QI did a piece on how bare knuckle boxing is safer as fights are ended sooner due to cuts etc - was quite interesting

So longer term its much better not to wear a head guard.

I cant see conlan failing his medical tomorrow

In theory, yes but very few amateur boxers have ever been injured wearing headgear (and I don't think amateur boxers with blood streaming from their head in events like the Olympics is particularly good for the image of the sport).

Seems the NI camp are bullish about the chances of Michaela Walsh beating Nicola Adams tomorrow. Apparently she's considered a real livewire prospect in the sport.

Very impressive too. He must be the strong favourite for gold tomorrow.

The Indian started real well but ran out of puff v quickly. Barnes is the seasoned "pro" at this game. Can see him stopping the Indian

And the Welsh guy who lost to the Indian reckons that Barnes will hammer him

That young Scot really put it to the better Boxer

This will be a poor return 4 from 9 if Coyle loses this- which I can see happening

What did he say to the interviewer? Said something, laughed and the interviewer then said 'We wont say that' and moved on.

4 from 9 is okayish....they were probably hoping for 5 or 6 from 9 though.

It all depends on how they do tomorrow : two golds would probably be the minimum they're hoping for now.

Couldn't work it out because of his heavy accent but he was certainly very rough looking.....like the local joyrider or something.

I wonder will the beeb show it or will it be on their red button?

    Edit:

From the beeb: Jason Mohammad and Hazel Irvine present the afternoon's live coverage of the Commonwealth Games on the penultimate day in Glasgow. Boxing dominates the afternoon with seven gold medals decided, including three in the women's event which is appearing at the Commonwealth Games for the first time. England's Nicola Adams won the first ever women's Olympic boxing gold at London 2012 and will hope to repeat the trick.

    Yes!

She was a bit unlucky I think.....that was a very, very close fight and I thought she won that last round

    Did you see her interview?

She was very upset with it and felt cheated. Two judges had it level and the other 3-1 to Adams.

She can take heart from it though, 20 years old she has plenty of years for Gold medals.

Bang out of order. Show a little decorum and manners. I can understand anyone being upset, but 30 mins later there is time to gather yourself and to conduct yourself in a sporting manner. The fight was close. No way she was cheated. How can she know so clearly unless she sits back and studies the tape.

Very even round but Barnes got it

I think Laishram wins the hanging gloves tattoo battle.

Very close first round, Laishram boxed at a similar pace in the semi but ran out of steam in the 3rd round.

I would have given the Indian the first but wouldn't disagree

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 35,514 ✭✭✭✭efb

Barnes easily winning R2 the Indian running out of puff 19:19 (20-18 officially)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 35,514 ✭✭✭✭efb

Closer that R2 but Barnes wins it for me 29:27

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 57,368 ✭✭✭✭walshb

I gave the first two to Barnes. Didn't think rd 1 was all that close. Rd 3 close, but Barnes too good. Beautiful performance.

Missed the interview. What did Barnes say?

I thought she very narrowly won the fight myself, but she was far from gracious in her interview and at the medal ceremony.

Nothing much said the fight was close but 90% of it is winning R1.

She could be a real livewire prospect for a medal in Rio. Adams is the world No.1 and Walsh pushed her all the way
