STI Question

So my boyfriend is just after telling me that he has genital warts, courtesy of a HPV infection he got last year before we were together. He told me ages ago that he had had the virus but that doctors had given him the all clear, so I didn't worry too much about it at the time, but now apparently it's flared up again (he reckons it's because his immune system is down-he's had a bit of a flu for quite a while).

I'm afraid I don't know very much about HPV but I've done a bit of Googling and I'm worried now as all the sites I've checked say that the virus can be transmitted even if the person isn't showing any symptoms. My boyfriend and I haven't had sex in a couple of months as he's been in America all summer but I'm worried that I could have caught it from him months ago if it was in fact just lying dormant.

I don't really know where to go to get checked out though! Letterkenny is the nearest town to me, and I think there is a sexual health clinic in the hospital? Everywhere I've looked up online seems to be saying that I'll need a Smear Test to check for HPV though; can I get a smear test since I'm only 21?

Sorry if this has been TMI but I'm a bit freaked out by it all :/

The doctors could not have given him the all clear for HPV, because there is no cure known.

    See a GP

    I'd contact your GP.

It is an extremely common infection. Most sexually active people have it in Ireland, and mostly people carry it around (and spread it) without ever knowing they have it.

Hi OP, I'm afraid we can't give you medical advice here on boards.
Your best route is your GP though, he/she will point you in the right direction. Maybe even phone them and see what they say.

    Sauve.
