Am I eating too much fruit?

    Hello,

    I've reduced my body fat quite a bit over the past 7-8 months and have begun to nit pick. I usually have 2 bananas, apple and pear every day, usually snacking on them from 8.30am until 5pm including a bowl of alpen for breakfast and lunch.

    Question is whether I have too much fructose in my diet? I don't have a massive sugar intake otherwise.

    Can you eat too much fruit?

    You can eat too much fruit but I'd be looking at the bowl of Alpen for breakfast and lunch as bigger sugar culprits before the fruit at this point.

    Alpen is a way bigger problem. And most likely symptomatic of other issues in your approach towards nutrition.

    I'd worry about fructose when I'm consuming 1L of some sugary drink a day.

    4 pieces of fruit a day in an otherwise good diet won't be doing you any harm.

    Replace your Alpen with nuts, seeds and add more veg to diet also perhaps

    Noted re the Alpen situation. I've just googled the 'no added sugar' one and it has 8g of sugar per serving????

    Are they any healthy alternative cereals? I think my diet isn't too bad - I live with a chap doing nutrition so he tends to keep me in check!

    What did he tell you about alpen

    99% of the time i eat eggs for breakfast and can recommend that, or porridge if you really want the carbs instead.

    I've seen iit recommended on TV that you should aim for less than 5g of sugar per serving. Things like Weetabix come within this range.

    Your goal is to lose more weight? If you are still losing weight your diet is fine. If you're not losing weight then you need to sort out your diet, simple as. The previous few posts have some pretty sound and applicable advice.

    Definition around the abdomen really. Here it goes;

    I used to eat a banana, apple and pear for breakfast but I've started to have Alpen with banana and blueberries. Will change this to three boiled eggs and the fruit or weetbix from now on.

    Lunch: can consist of homemade brown bread with ham, turkey, salami and houmous/ a sandwich from boots / salad bar in tesco(regular) / and odd cheat with footlong subway.

    Dinner: either fajitas/meatballs with small portion of pasta/ homemade curry made from paste / bacon and cabbage / sausage and mash / spag bol

    post gym diet whey shake then dinner.

    Cup of tea with couple of biscuits in the evening.

    You can make your own granola/alpen style stuff at home. Its really easy, the ingredients and fairly cheap and you can put in as little sugar as you like.

    That's pretty carb heavy in fairness yeah
    Eggs & fruit, meat / meat & veg, meat & veg would be better

    Remove all the processed food (bread, alpen, weetabix, brown bread, pasta, biscuits). You also don't need a whey shake. Just eat real food. If eating fruit try stick to berries.

    I need the protein shake to replenish my enormous muscles. It's diet whey so there's hardly any carbs.

    All in all we're saying the fruit I'm eating is not a problem and get rid of the Alpen.

    This means no additional white sugar added. The dried fruit in it is high in natural sugars.

    100% pure apple juice has about the same sugar content as regular coke. Even skimmed milk has the same sugar content as regular lilt or cidona, just that its naturally occuring and a different type of sugar which would not worry some people as much.

    Out of interest, I've recently been using unsweetened Almond Milk for my shakes instead of skimmed/semi-skimmed milk. Think it comes in at something like 13 cals per 100ml (think the regular is double this). It has 0.2g of sugar.

    Finding it a great replacement at the minute. It can be a little harsh when drank on its own (haven't had it in cereal yet), but working well in my shakes and I reckon I'll stick to it for a while.

    The fruit you are eating is high in sugar. Less fruit ( eat berries) = better and quicker results.

    You don't need the shake- make your own food.

    im using the same one-Alpro.great relpacement as im trying to steer clear of dairy with reports ive read of hormones etc in the milk.May be BS but i said id try it anyway.Less sugar than ordinary milk and i actually like the taste,have it in my tea too

    Ridiculously easy to make your own Almond milk lads. One part almonds with 3 parts water - blendy blenderson and you're good to go... I pass it through a strainer for coffee but will just throw it in (nutty bits n all) if using it in porridge etc... best bit - no added sugar!

    No hormones in Irish milk. Pity too...bench press has been stalled for the last while!

    Ground almonds are often in the baking section, there is zero vat on unsalted unroasted almonds so they can be a lot cheaper to buy that way.

    I am racking my brain trying to remember some crazy comment I overheard a while ago in dunnes, a young lad about 16 & his mother wondering about either coconut milk or almond milk.
