I passed a cafe called Sip and Slurp today - no, I wouldn't even enter a place with that name :D

It reminded me of the equally horribly named Chew 'n' Chat.

But all are surpassed by the bottom-feeding Gobble n Go.

Years ago my young family were so amused by Chew'n'Chat that they devised a game for long car journeys:

    Bite'n'Babble

    Nosh'n'Natter

    Munch'n'Maunder

    Taste'n'Tattle

    Slurp'n'Slander

    Consume'n'Converse

    etc etc etc etc etc

Not repulsive, but a name I hate is Noshington, on the SCR/Washington Street corner.

I hear the cafe has a touchy customer service policy.

Mao...named after a murderous Chinese peasant brute who killed millions of his own people in labour camps and through forced collectivisation.

It sickens me to see the Right-on crusties and chinbeards eating in there because they don't know any better.

I'd just love to see an eatery named after Hitler...Arbeit Macht Fries anyone?

I think the people who eat there know, they just don't really care.

Yes, Mao always puzzled me too. Does it have a Little Red Menu?

I'd suspect these modern youngsters have never heard of Chairman Mao Tse Tung at all, 'twas before their time.

As a man, I just can't bring myself to even look at the menu in Snax in the City, even though I walk past every day around lunchtime.

the possibilities are endless - Franco's Tapas Bar, Mussolini Pizzeria. You're right about Mao though, the name is tasteless.

Yup, apparently had to close due to a threat from the rights holders of the sitcom Friends who had a cafe in it called Central Perk..

I remember reading about it thinking how petty it was.

Taste of Emilia, on Liffey Street. Reminds me of a lesbian brothel.

As well as similarity in name I seem to remember that the signage looked like the Central Perk signs

I've heard it's decent fare, but I wouldn't darken their door because of the name.

Dwarf Jar on the quays, quite a nice place, but the name summons up visions of preserved homunculi in formaldehyde, which is a little offputting if all you want is a latte and a caramel slice.

Wuff near Smithfield, Dublin. Looks decent enough if in a quiet and strange location. But the name makes you wonder if they specialize in Korean delicacies.

Eh? Mao is a common Chinese name. Did you really think that place was named after Chairman Mao???

Hitler, by comparison, is not a common name at all.
