Greatest marketing campaigns of all time?

What do you think are some of the greatest marketing campaigns of all time?

I would have to say the 'Do you love anyone enough to give them your last Rolo' one was pure genius. Received some and gave many too. One fat kid in my class used to say that it was unlucky to pretend a Rolo was your last and so would insist on eating the rest of your pack to make sure. Nice guy that he was.

'Bet you can't put a Fruit Pastille in your mouth without chewing it' was another.

The current Coca-Cola campaign is actually genius. Put a load of names of the bottles and get a load of free publicity with people taking photos of cans of coke and posting them all over social media.

    Coca cola.

Fcuking adults going doolally because they got a bottle of coke with their stupid fcuking name on it.

So simple it's Genius all the same.

    Edit. Beat to it.

Several... The Budweiser horses. Kelloggs Xmas ads. However, Coca Cola's Santa had got to be the most successful, they more or less invented how Santa is now perceived worldwide, with the red outfit, big white beard and jolly demeanour

    Lucozade with Daly Thompson.

Lucozade was a drink you gave to sick people in hospital before this campaign. Then it became the drink for athletes, or those who just needed a bit more energy.

    Before Daly.

    Daly.

Surely that's an example of one that backfired spectacularly isn't it?

Ronseal: "Does exactly what it says on the tin"

Don't think it could be classed as a "great marketing campaign" but this is one I always remember from childhood.

I am sure there are a bunch of marketing students writing their dissertations on that one.

Did it sell a boat load more pints in and around the day? - Yes.
Did its implosion drive any of their customers away - no.
Did it increase brand awareness - yes.
Did it sully the Guinness brand name in more recent times - perhaps a bit.

Eventually it backfired as its now defunct. But the original premise was brilliant marketing I thought. To get that much publicity from raising a glass to Arthur codswallop. Getting pubs absolutely wedged on a Thurs evening in Sept from the off.

This was the biggest burn I've ever seen for Microsoft and their XBOX ONE, when they announced that that console would not allow games to be used on more than one system. Sony locked on, aimed and fired with laser precision.
    Microsoft changed their minds.
