Dunno, I don't think I've ever seen "lamb" on the menu, usually just "doner kebab" which just means turned meat in Turckish.

Anyway, Iskanders, Dame St, charcoal chicken shish meal, you won't want another doner after that.

Iskanders and Zaytoon use 100% lamb, the difference is very noticeable.

At least it's not horse, eh?

Just like KFC so, I'm pretty sure the only thing that says chicken on the Menu is Popcorn Chicken.

Apparently they cant call anything chicken because there all deformed.

I thought it was bollox but then i went in and looked at the menu and not a mention of chicken anywhere except for the popcorn bad boys.

In fairness, the 'lamb' on the meat spit never even looks like it's lamb, it's almost always anemic and grey looking.

With one exception: Zaytoon. Their doner spit looks, and tastes, like lamb.

Edit: I am in no way whatsoever affiliated with Zaytoon. Although, it is true that I do own shares in the company.

It's everywhere, just not in the actual names but that's probably because of the fact it's a chicken "restaurant" :P

Hahahaha Makes sense really, Why advertise chicken when all they pretty much serve is chicken :D Common sense

The only time most people have a kebab is when they are cross-eyed from drink. It could be slices of old donkey and people would still eat them. Well the half that doesn't end all over your clothes.

Chicken shish and not chicken doner are definitely the way to go.

The kebab house on dominick street is Galway do a good shish. Takes a while as it has to be cooked from the fridge.

    Dividends paid in kebabs.

You really haven't experienced a kebab until you've tried a camel kebab from the Djamaa El Fna Square in Marrakech.

The meat is slowly cooked in the fat from the camel's hump, a taste that is truly sublime.

I've tried kebabs in a few countries, including Turkey, and they vary wildly. I had one in from a Turkish stall in a market that was supposed to be the best Vienna had to offer and it was ropey as fcuk. Had one in Tunisia that was far more dodgy than beef masquerading as lamb. Camel kebab I probably haven't had, but I can't be sure.

simlarly Shanahans menu does not mention "cow" on it. Christ knows what animal they are making these filet steaks from!

Yeah, seems really strange. Tars all restaurants serving kebab with the same brush. It's possible that the honest ones will suffer a loss of custom as a result. If they have documentary evidence of their claims why not name & shame so consumers can make an informed choice?

Less outrage = less newspapers sold. If the headline was "specific kebabhouse A has chicken instead of lamb in kebab" a subset of kebab eaters are going to shrug their shoulders and say "never been there, me no care".

Also could be legal reasons. Afaik samples taken for official testing are labelled, signed for etc etc etc. The indo probably just mailed off the scraps left over from someones lunch. :pac:

The study was done by the FSAI, not the Indo. If you go to the FSAI you'll find a statement, of which the Indo "article" is basically a ctrl + c, ctrl + v job.

    Here is the fsai page.

    http://www.fsai.ie/news_centre/press_releases/EU_horsemeat_testing_24072014.html
In the case of the doner kebabs it is also stating that the menu claimed it was lamb. This would rule out most chippers I have been in, don't think abras do this either, I think some more authentic places do but expect some don't.

Mystery meat from a spinning stick is never going to be legit.

Round and round and round it goes, where it comes from nobody knows...

It's also pretty blatantly chicken if you to something mad like... take a bite out of it.

Yeah but plenty of other meats "taste like chicken". Snail tastes like chicken, rabbit tastes like chicken, crocodile tastes like chicken, probably plenty of other things too. The fact that something tastes vaguely like a previous taste memory associated with chicken is no indication that it actually is.
