I don't know about anyone else, but I've seen a lot more people in my gym as of late and I've also noticed a lot more people of the heftier variety talking up cycling, walking and jogging

even the local schools are having only fruit days and more focus on physical education

So is their a kinda fitness revolution taking place, are people sick of the couch and the Chinese ?

Has anyone else noticed this taking place ?

I thought this was just was because my circle of friends are reaching the 30-zone and starting to freak out! Lots of people, even ones that would have ordinarily been very "eh, no" when it came to exercise are starting to get interested. Can't say the gym has been busier. If anything it is only finally getting over the January surge.

Nah, I don't think so. You only really notice things like this when you take it up yourself. Then you try to get a few friends involved, or if that doesn't work out seek other friends with the same interests.. whether cycling, running, hiking, etc..

It's like when you're not into cars and you buy one, suddenly you notice your model all over the place.

Also.. yea think Zillah has a point with the over 30s club. My experience, the boozing slows down a bit and ya start looking for more productive ways to pass the time.

    Not really a revolution.

    This happens every summer.

Summer soldiers of fitness that is all you are seeing. Come November you won't see most of these for dust.

They normally resurface hearty and plump next April or May.

I'm not sick of the Chinese anyway.

The Chinese: a great bunch of lads.

You could say the same for the post Christmas resolution crowd that invade the gym every January, I never noticed a peak at this time of year before, usually its like a church their most days

I think there has been a general uptake in people's interest in fitness and health over the past few years. Haven't noticed any out of the ordinary spike this Summer though.

Slightly related, Coca Cola and McDonalds both reporting a decline in sales this quarter :D May just be a bump in the road but hopefully it's a sign that the tide is turning.

No fitness revolution.... Just a Revolution Fitness.

Definitely an increase the last few year and could be related to the down turn in the economy.

Cheap fitness clothes and runners in Aldi and Lidl.

A lot of people out there running, walking and cycling as a consequence

No fitness revolution, it just seems to be a new fashion for the inner city women in particular, Nike leggings and free runs with a zip up running jacket along with fake lashes ,tan and miniature jack Russell/ pug....

I actually wince when I see most people running

    heel striking
    no knee lift

why do they run on tarmac??? when their body clearly could do with grass

this is 100% spot on,its a fashion statement now to have multi couloured nike free runs on an general training clothing while walking down to the chipper, wearing free runs wont make you's skinny girls try running in them.

Cheers! Your post got me thinking about a few flaws in my form in my last HM. I'll be working on those two issues in particular over the next few weeks before my next race. There are a few great basic videos on YouTube that help a lot.

I said this to a mate of mine. Said he'd be afraid of falling over and breaking his ankle or something if he was running on grass.

    Grass isn't that uneven!
