    hi wife lost it
so i opened a dispute, he responded claiming i arranged my own shipping courier

will paypal protection cover me ?
i have messages on ebay where we made the deal, but we didnt trade through ebay

You dont have a leg to stand on ! trading outside Ebay you will not get your money back.

Hard to tell. You shouldn't have gone outside of eBay, sure you don't need telling that now. Paypal should still cover it, seller should have to provide proof of postage and if they don't have it I would imagine they're screwed.

You should be grand, bought on eBay paid with Paypal, you should be totally covered, seller will have to provide proof of shipment to Paypal which they obviously don't have. Case closed.

I had a case recently where the seller could not provide tracking and paypal closed case in my favour like you say there.

True, they're owned by it though, and generally not a good idea to trade with ebay items out of ebay but I still think it should be fine, just couldn't be 100% on it.

Doing trade on ebay items outside of ebay is irrelevant to the paypal transaction. The only issue is breaching terms and conditions with ebay and one could get ebay account suspended.

    Yes
I gave him 8 days to get the watch to me, opened the dispute and escalated, he has just responded saying
    Buyer organised own shipping.
I Messaged paypal and sent a copy of the message in eBay that shows him stating his wife cannot find the tracking info, so now a waiting game

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,720 ✭✭✭Sir Arthur Daley

If no tracking can be produced paypal will side with you. That seller sounds like a time waster, he must be new to the scamming because everyone knows the way paypal works with claims.

That's what I thought, if he asked for it as a gift I would have ran a mile but he seemed genuine

They all do at the start, the waiting game is irritating, i don't get why they give so much time for stages in the case. In the case i had i rang paypal in the finish and they closed it off. Is the case at the stage now where the seller has so many days to give tracking to paypal?

They gave him 8 days from when I opened it, very tedious process

You have alot of money tied up, my case was of lesser money but at the same time i couldnt buy another item as there is always the possibility of it arriving in the post or in my case i couldnt afford to make another purchase as it was a non essential item. Its only until you get your money back and case closed you can move on and make another purchase.

If there new they would not have received money into there paypal account yet, new members need to wait up to 28 days, escalate the claim as soon as you can don't wait around, you will see it when you go into case details.

Just rang paypal as it's bugging me, they said they will be in touch tomorrow lunch time, seller hasn't provided any info only that I arranged collection, surely a courier arranged by me would have given a docket to him
He sells low priced items on eBay has a seller rating of 11 so he has access to his paypal funds, once a dispute is open that is frozen unless he has withdrawn it, paypal will chase the seller for the amount, she said it seems straight forward but can't promise anything

I had a dispute with PayPal over something Bought on eBay and they refused to pay about 8 years ago. Refuse to use them ever since because I alerted eBay to the goings on, had to claim via my bank they happily refunded me but PayPal so not a friendly org to deal with,

I'd say you were just unlucky, I have had several disputes over the years, never had a problem with paypal.

Looks fine, all good feedback, not sure what happened to you but i would say go ahead and bid on the one he has up, it starts at 99p, you might get a bargain there..

    sorry just seen it's a 8 pounds

I'd say it could be a case where he was worried if he sent it, you would say you never received it, then you would have been refunded and had the watch, he wouldn't have a leg to stand on as he didn't go through ebay..

Yes he would, selling by paypal is covered by using registered post, it is how I buy and sell watches all the time, he knew what he was doing, he lied to me about posting it, said his wife lost the tracking number and then said the post offices were closed for a week in Northern Ireland due to the orange march
refused to give paypal any information regarding the sale
Said I arranged my own courtier ect

    oh yes sorry..
