Only seen the odd EO position advertised on its own hopefully they have an overall external EO positions campaign. No sign of an EO one similar campaigns to CO/AO yet?

There will be one by the end of this week. Keep an eye on public jobs.ie

PS any eo jobs that you've seen are not civil service jobs.

Most of the State Bodies, and state boards- take on EOs all the time (but aren't considered to be civil service). The Irish Medicine board took on 4 recently- that were advertised on publicjobs. Normally- they try to fill them through redeployment first- and only when they can't get existing officers to redeploy- do they open it to the public.

Yes but they're not civil servants.

Apparently open and interdepartmental competitions will be announced very soon. Will you be applying?

I will indeed, didn't know there was more of them coming. Where did you hear about it OP, any more details to be had?

I heard about it in work. I am a CO in the CS and the union informed us of both competitions. :)

If you're applying as an existing co, do you think that there'll be a part to put that in, or is this completely test based to begin with?

I hope they didn't have someone sitting there @ 23.54 to send the e-mail notifications! That poor, poor Nykhal track comes to mind.......

The e-mail, and information booklet refer to a list of participating Departments- but there doesn't appear to be a list? Anyone see a list anywhere? The wording suggests its limited to specific Departments and/or locations- and it says they're listed- but I don't see any list anywhere?

Crap, just realised that I won't be able to apply for the interdepartmental ones, as I'm in a semi state org. Gah!

The Departments are listed on the application form.

So what are the requirements for applying for this? I see they have listed a degree OR leaving certificate... I have both, just curious about what the numbers applying might be like. Thanks

There are going to be thousands applying for this. Almost 30 thousand people applied for the recent CO competition.

In 2005, 11,274 people applied for EO (including me)!

The table on page 56 of this report gives more details and statistics.

    Best of luck everyone. :)

    Departments are listed here:

    Specialist Irish Stream (Functional Bilingual)
EO in the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine
EO in the Central Statistics Office
EO in the Department of Social Protection
EO in the Department of Education & Skills/SEC
EO in the Department of Justice & Equality
EO in the Department of Public Expenditure & Reform

In that case, the number applying now is going to be high if that many applied at almost the peak of the boom.

Does anyone know if the jobs are gonna be based in Dublin or around the country?

  • Registered Users Posts: 173 ✭✭mamaheidi

    Hi,

I just applied for the EO job.... as in I confirmed all my details. It says questionnaire for stage one but I didn't see one (apart from the sheet with my contact details). When I clicked "continue" I just got an email confirmation that I had applied........... ahhhhhhhh

Any body have to fill in a questionnaire??

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 32,279 Mod ✭✭✭✭The_Conductor

If its the same format as the other competitions- you'll get a message on your noticeboard- a few days after the closing date for the competition- with a link to the online questionaire. Probably be the 2nd or 3rd week in Jan at this stage.

    Hi all,

I have gone through the booklet carefully, but I can find no elaboration on what the preliminary screening tests involve. Is it safe to say that it's the standard numerical, verbal and abstract reasoning? If numerical is definitely being tested I might not bother.

The jobs will be filled as is required from individual departments. Its too early to tell what jobs will be filled outside Dublin.
