I woke up to another lot of reporting about how these were potentially up for the chopper.

I really don't like the idea of something that iconic being pulled down.

And I especially love them for this:

11390317_80870fd530_o.jpgPoolbeg Dec 2003 by windsandbreezes, on Flickr

which was taken using an OM10 Olympus with some sort of Tokina lens I think, more than 10 years ago. I've always loved the photograph.

Anyone else got photos of them?

I actually don't have any - disappointing to hear they are talking about knocking them. I'll have to get a few photos to make up for this gap in my collection :)

    Lovely shot btw!

i love the candysticks! i'd be gutted if they ever took them away. when i came here in 1998, it was the first thing i saw, while coming in on the ferry from the UK. it's what i look for out the window of a plane when i land.. & when i see them i just think "ahhh back in dublin!"

You must have missed that conversation on twitter about this. Stephen H was of course of the opinion that the sooner they're bulldozed the better :-D

    Yeah I missed that.

I'm not sure about bulldozing them to be honest. I do think they are iconic. But I spend time on the prom in Clontarf and I would like to see them, oh, maybe painted gloss white or street art or something. Right now they look a touch tatty.

    I have a full set - https://www.flickr.com/photos/cambogueno/sets/72157612743226187/

I live close by and never tire of seeing them. I love coming down random streets and catching a glimpse, especially from new angles and perspectives. Long May they stand...

I went through some of my posts on pixie and put a few in an album - I gave up when I realised how many shots they featured in.

The ones in this album are probably my better ones

I used to hate the towers. Thought they were an eyesore but over time I've grown very fond of them. Would hate to see them torn down.

I'm with Stephen H on this, eyesores and the sooner they disappear the better. I don't understand the Irish psyche that craves a representation of the capitol city to be two defunct, mismatched and decrepit feckin chimneys.

I've even taken too 'shopping them out of images just to annoy those some chimeny-philes.

I've always been a fan of them. For me they're something akin to an Irish version of Battersea; something that should be an ugly relic of times past, but their imposing presence, both physically and in pop culture, have given them a landmark status worth protecting.

Yeah, I'd be sad to see them go... even if they give the bay a sort of post-apocalyptic look. I don't have many photos of them other than this one.

There has been talk on and off of demolishing the towers and I think it is highly misguided. They are an iconic part of the Dublin skyline (I have even seen them from Slieve Binnian in the Mournes) and should be left alone.

Not sure if I agree with the notion that they are worth preserving. But they certainly did make a great backdrop for some of my photos over the years.
