Do you get network noel too?

I so want the tree cutter and the uniform stores bus!! Wonder how much these will actually sell for?

A lot of private bus contractors bought 1 each last time they got rid of them, its gas seeing one painted white around the country roads down here. A local primary school can fit the entire school on one. Apparently very very uneconomical though

I bet with a little investment you could turn one those into an awesome gaff! :D

Keep it looking standard on the outside and you get to use the bus lanes and park it up wherever you like and then move on whenever the mood takes you or you fancy a holiday, or you don't like your neighbors.

I'd love to get my mits on one of the Olympians, just wouldn't able to though. :(

    Auction starts at 8:00PM,

The buses will show up about 8:10PM

imagine the amount of fag butts and puke down behind the seats on the top deck.

ALso makes me laugh at line in the commitments: Decko? is that top decko or bottom decko.........

Its not over 100 - The 63 on the first line are the 59 + the 4 on the next two lines.

Meaning there's not enough to go around here, time to form a queue... and a bit more orderly than a bus queue, thanks. :pac:

Fine, I'll stand like I do at the 130 terminus in Abbey Street. :pac: ;)

About €2.65. But you'll only be able to drive it into town.

Presume you can use the bus lane if you buy one?

Yes and with non commercial use you'll have to pay motor tax at the private vehicle rate which means that you loose out on paying the higher commercial tax.

If you remove all but eight of the seats, could you drive it on a B license?

I like the idea of buying one, keeping it in Dublin Bus livery, displaying a route number, and causing massive irritation by constantly driving past people at bus stops. :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,680 ✭✭✭✭TheDriver

Just buy the tree cutter or uniform one, no seats already and u can appear at bus stop with a chainsaw.....

    The weight (over 3500kg) means you'd need a C licence. :(

You'd need plenty of cash for diesel, double decker buses are true gas guzzlers at about 5 miles per gallon.

Would be fairly expensive even to shift for holidays as a camper van.

Anybody know if these will fit in a Parcel Motel locker or will I have to pay to have it couriered? (even without tyres?). Might bite if so, thanks OP. (they seem to be about 15c more on Amazon so this seems like a good bargain)

Just pull into a Dublin Bus garage and they might think it's still one of their own, and refill it for you. Problem solved.

this is exactly why you keep it looking standard on the outside with the DB colour scheme and maybe get those advertising decals that cover the windows but you can still see out of, but can't really see in. :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,127 ✭✭✭✭Gael23

What sort of money would you pay for one of these?
They are very uneconomical, about 8-10 mpg at best.

They don't have keys, just a button to start. I did my driving test in one of those 1990 RH's. 90 D 142

how are they locked?? Are they all autos?

Why would they store uniforms on a bus?
And why would they use a bus to cut down trees?

    Confusing thread is confusing.

Apparently it goes from depot to depot for uniforms, even has dressing room on board.
Tree cutting bus is because branches can cause costly damage to buses, it also has steps to allow the cutter some height

i'm very disappointed to hear this, I had envisioned a mad max style bus with a massive chainsaw on the front of it. :(

Yep the uniform bus went to each depot each summer and you got kitted out from it for the following year. Correct on the tree lopper bus too.

As for the other question's, they aren't locked and are all auto's. Nobody has ever stolen one that I know of though. They aren't parked on the street very often these days anyway.

Its a pity we don't have giggle worthy destinations like they do in London. I always get the giggles when I hear Cockfosters being called in the tube station

is it not the same as shopping trolleys where you get to bring them home for a euro, or those overpriced 2 euro ones they have in aldi?

Always liked the AV class buses myself.. Bigger than the older Olympians so if you were going to convert one to a camper that would be a plus :)

In fact someone did precisely that in the UK with an older ex-Dublin Bus Olympian already

Think it's a pretty cool idea myself if you could afford to run it!

Dublin Bus own the rims, Bridgestone own the tyres. The tyres included would probably be barely legal if not racing slicks...

This is not a real bargain unless someone has bought one.

    Has that happened ??:D

Negotiations are ongoing to get one so BA hunters can tour from Tesco stores looking for yellow sticker items ;)
