Always be so so cautious when overtaking someone!

I've seen many people almost get killed from overtaking when there was on coming traffic.

Only other day I seen a man try to overtake a massive lorry on the way to Dublin, there was a car coming the other way and only for he had a tiny car that could've ended badly, very badly.

Never overtake near corners either! You never know what could be on the other side.

Only overtake when you're totally sure there's no on coming traffic and you can make it.

Would love to win but even if I don't it's worth it to get this message out there.

Stay safe on the roads Boardsies :)

When your mobile phone rings, don't jump on the breaks, pull over oblivious as to whether or not its a good place to stop or whether there is other traffic on the road and answer your phone.

You can always phone back when it's safe.

When driving with a trailer, really you cannot just nip across the road as quickly as you could without the trailer

When overtaking, make sure to leave enough room when you come back into the driving lane so that the car you are overtaking doesn't have to break or take aversive action.

If you don't like staying at the overtaking speed for enough time to pass properly, then don't overtake.

Summer holidays are here be extra careful in residential areas, watch out for kids playing around your parked car and drive slow.

    It's not Ok to park

on double yellow lines cause you are just nipping to the ATM
    In front of another car
In front of a persons entrance to their house
In a disabled parking space if not disabled
In front of the shops doors (really dangerous for kids coming in and out) even if you are still in the car waiting for the missus to finish the shopping
Taking up three spaces because you are staying in the car and just waiting for the missus to finish shopping
Blocking the road to and from the school, cause you can run really fast in to get your kid and it wasn't your fault that people stopped you to chat on the way back

Just because, you are at mass or a funeral, you are a man of a certain age, or a busy mum doesn't mean that using designated parking places doesn't apply to you.

If a lane is merging, give way to the car, do not try to run it off road!

You must really want this voucher but c'mon I'm sure it's one entry per user.

And the rules are your best piece of advise not the whole entire rules of the road! :pac:

I always see people giving lots of space, slowing down, giving leeway, and generally acting nice, cautious and positively, towards driving instructors cars when they see them out on the road (when it's obvious it's a person doing a lesson).

However, people don't seem to hold the same regard for normal cars with L plates.

Give L plated cars a bit of space, especially on hill starts. Parking on their back bumper is incredibly silly. Give them a car length on a tricky hill start to help them out a bit.

Common sense, goes a long way.

It may seem obvious, but KNOW THE TRAFFIC RULES inside-out, at home and abroad.  This is the best way to keep yourself and others safe.

Drive as if there is a horse and cart around the next corner. There just might be.

My #drivesafer tip is simple. Keep within the speed limits. They do serve a purpose. :-)

Best advice received was from my Dad.. Stay alert to potential hazards. Even if you're a safe driver be aware that other drivers may not be!

Always carry a Hi-viz Florescent jacket in case you break down (or come across an accident) at night in a country area, This could save your life if you have to get out of the car.

Always expect the unexpected - you never know what may be around the next corner.

Also, when meeting animals on the road, remember to slow down (50 kph is not slow) and leave ample space between you and them. Don't rev your engine, beep the horn, or start shouting at the person who's in control of the animal.

Have you're headlights alignment checked, replace blown bulbs and keep you're distance. Remember the 2 second rule, 4 seconds if it's wet. Keep left unless overtaking!

If you experience road rage at the hands of another driver pull in and take a deep breath before driving off again. It can be intimidating when a road rage incident occurs, and taking a quick break to calm yourself will lower the chance of you making a bad decision
