Not meeting someone isn't a crime is it?

Just wanted to check, long story short I had an arrangement to meet someone tomorrow to sell a computer, no money had exchanged hands, but private messages were exchanged, but I cant make it tomorrow so i messaged the chap this morning asking him to either wait, or meet closer to me, and all I've got is torrents of abuse, threats to report me to the garda and 'cybercell' and threats to sue me. Just to be 100% sure, not meeting someone in this context isn't a crime in any sort of context is it?

    No.

    Enjoy your weekend.

Even if it was, it's certainly less of a crime than what your meet-up companion has been up to.

How far is this chap travelling to meet you?

How far is this chap travelling to meet you?

Well he said donegal. But his profile and previous comments suggest he actually lives about 5 minutes from the meeting place.

Not an inch, if the op was me. He sounds like a bit of an, erm, item. Gards! Lol. "Whatever old son, take two more of the blue ones " would be the reply..

    I was 99% sure it wasn't. I just wanted to be 100%.

He sounds like a fruitcake alright.

I'd only be that mad about not meeting someone if it was Ryan Gosling/Bradley Cooper/Katy Perry/Kate Winslet who cancelled a hot sex meetup on me. :pac:

Suuuurrrreeee, it'll be grand OP, tell him you'll meet him tomorrow and then don't show up or do but hide in the shadows and film your man having a freak out when he can't find you. :pac:

Which is odd, they were grand hanging around in the trenches with each other.

    Do you swing both ways?

There's no problem with breaking the arrangement, and if your description is accurate I'd suggest you never meet that person.

    Do you swing both ways?

Heterosexual most of the time, but yes, I find women attractive also. :)

O.P. your buyer sounds like bit of a nut job to me.
No, you are not commiting any crime in any context. Inform him that you are not comfortable with his attitude towards you and you are withdrawing from the transaction. Also tell him that if he continues to send you abusive and threatening messages you will have no option but to report him.
Have no more contact with him and screen save all the messages between you both so far and any future ones.
If you do, for whatever reason, decide to meet up with the buyer, do not go alone.

    What's a cybercell?

I googled it, and it seems to be some sort of cyber police in Mumbai.

How has he lost 30 euro ?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,835 ✭✭✭✭cloud493

He claimed he got a bus from donegal. But his profile, and comments to other people, including some from today, says he lives about 5-10 minutes walk from our meeting place.

He got a bus from Donegal the day before or bought the ticket ?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,835 ✭✭✭✭cloud493

He bought the ticket today I think, to get the bus tomorrow to meet me. Although he has comments on other items for sale, saying he could meet in dublin city centre any time since he works and lives there

What a load of c*ck. Ignore or report him yourself for sending threatening messages. It's not a fcuking crime to cancel on somebody. What a tool.

Just make sure if you do sell your item to a new buyer to have a friend with you. Could be psycho sally looking for revenge!

An ICT professional with really bad grammar ?

Walk away and put it down to experience, chances are that they're just a muppet but it's not worth taking risks alone

Thing is, if he'd been nicer, I would have been more inclined to overlook the blatant lying about his location, and probably paid his 'travel costs'

You should report him to the grammar nazis, they will fix him up real good. :D

Sounds like a total fruitcake, do not meet this person.

tell him the meeting is back on-but you have to move it to donegal-say that you are sure that the "company" might have someone following you and you want to sell the computer on before the cops catch you with it.maybe ask him to wipe the hard drive for you,

Would you not arrange to meet the person anyway, in a public area, just out of pure curiosity like?

Well we were supposed to meet in front of the GPO in Dublin city centre. Pretty public to me. And it's not like I stood him up, I let him know nearly 24 hours in advance, and would have been happy to have him collect, or reschedule.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 20,373 ✭✭✭✭foggy_lad

Where did you advertise? I would report this on whatever site it was because this clown is clearly trying to scam €30 from you by saying your change of meeting time has cost him dearly.
