Check engine light & temporary loss of power?

Was driving along the motorway this evening doing about 120kmh. Car is a citroen xsara picasso 06. The engine fault warning light came on and as I was just at my exit I pulled off the motorway and stopped to check everything, car didn't feel right as I was pulling off the motorway and parking, like it had lost power.

Everything seemed ok when I opened the bonnet so I decided to keep going. Car drove perfectly normally after this but the check engine light is still on. Anybody any clues what this might be? Reason I'm asking is my mechanic is on hols for the next week or so and I really don't like bringing it anywhere else. Does this sound like something that needs urgent attention?

Any indy garage nearby will read fault codes for a tenner. :)

Sounds like the coil pack starting to break down, but you should have it scanned for fault codes.

Got it sorted in the main dealers in the end, running perfect again.

So what was the cause of the problem?

    And how much?

Throttle body fault but they couldn't find anything actually wrong, they did a software update too and all is well again. Did a good long run today and no problem. €80 altogether, not too bad.

maybe those software updates work, usually coil pack or injector fault are logged if present.glad its sorted cheaper alternative used.

Not sure as that €80 included nearly 1hr labour while they were tring to find the fault so I was happy with the price. I bought the car there so maybe there was some goodwill included. Think they mentioned €30 for the scan but not sure.

that's not bad at all, some main dealers charge that just to look at it without doing any physical work, you definitely got your monies worth but it may also be a partial goodwill gesture as you say

Yes I think so, vat was also included in that so the bill was more like 70, glad to get the update too.
