So I went back to the gym for the first time in a good few months on Thursday and did a pretty hard arm work out which was probably a bad idea as today I can barely straighten my right arm..

I read up that this could be tendinitis caused by doms so I am going to have another break until I recover but I am just wondering if I am to go back to the gym and do another arm work out will I experience this again or should my muscles be ready for a workout

I reckon its tendonitis, I wouldnt worry all that much about it. You need to be destroying yourself on pull ups / ropes / grappling daily before you do any damage.

If you go back to the gym, try do another workout or two for a few sessions before you launch into another arm workout.

I went back recently after a few months out got the same, stopped after about a week and never came back i reckon it was just my biceps pulling or something after being so long out

Tendonitis is not to be messed with: it is painful and can be very slow to resolve.

Do NOT stress the joint any more, until it is gone: or else you are just pulling on the same inflamed tendons and it won't heal. #voiceofexperience

OP you need medical advise. Not being able to straighten your arm after a workout is not normal and could be an indication of something being seriously amiss especially if it is still bothering you after three days. Nobody on this forum is going to be able to give you a diagnosis.

I find that hard to believe. Months to resolve, thats pretty ridiculous.

Why would you do an "arm workout" after months away from the gym, you're setting yourself up for failure there. Much better off easing yourself into it with three workouts in a week, squats, bench and deadlifts at about 70%.... and it's probably just doms you have.

Ive patellar tendonitis, pain in the arse. Havent been able to squat or deadlift in 3 months and still not resolved. Tendonitis is no fun.

I thought arms would be the best thing to go with I would off had to start them at sometime, I do not think this is doms I have had that before and this feels way different, doms is more of a tenderness feeling in the muscles.

Is the pain in your elbow?

It was in the inner part of my arm just below the bicep. Its fairly eased of today should be fully gone tomorrow.

You definetley don't know much about tendonitis then. Takes months to recover from & is a very frustating condition.

Got the exact same thing when I went back to the gym after a break.

Done preacher curls with the same weight I had done 2 months previous. Took about 4-5 days before it was better.

It's painful but it does subside and it's not too much to worry about. If it lasts beyond a week and a half I would see a doctor.
