Looks to be a great card, on paper anyway but really looking forward to it. But WTF is Brimage Doane doing on the main card ahead of Faber Bruce Leeroy????

Anyway, Machida could well take the belt, should be a great fight. Chances Rousey will be dethroned? Hope Struve is alright after his health problems, Meathead is a TOUGH fight!

Chris Weidman (c) vs. Lyoto Machida Ronda Rousey (c) vs. Alexis Davis Stefan Struve vs. Matt Mitrione
    Uriah Hall vs. Thiago Santos
    Marcus Brimage vs. Russell Doane

    Preliminary card (Fox Sports 1)
    Urijah Faber vs. Alex Caceres
    Kenny Robertson vs. Ildemar Alcantara
    Chris Camozzi vs. Bruno Santos
    George Roop vs. Rob Font

    Preliminary card (UFC Fight Pass)
    Luke Zachrich vs. Guilherme Vasconcelos
    Kevin Casey vs. Bubba Bush

    Who you got?? 27 votes

    Weidman
    0%
    Machida
    100%

Apparently they wanted to beef up the prelim card on Fox Sports 1. And due to the fact they have two title fights in the main card they were able to move Faber to the prelims. It's not in any way a bad reflection on him, but I doubt he is pleeased.

Myself personally, I would have moved the Uriah Hall vs. Thiago Santos fight.

Aaaahh ok. Hhmm wonder how uriah will perform, KO of the night or choke (not a sub) of the night.

    Machida
Yeah they always try to have a kinda mini main event, or main event of the prelims.

Builds the hype and viewers in advance of the PPV.

Card has lost a bit of edge without Chael and Vitor(or Wandy).

I fancy Weidman to get Machida down and punch holes through him.

Think Struve has a distinct ground advantage on Mitrione and if his health has no ill effects and he fights smart(which he often doesn't) he can take him by sub.

    Faber to sub Caceres also.

Im finding it really hard to call the Weidman Machida fight, Im shouting for Chris, really like the guy.

Gonna be a great card hopefully :) #excited

Is it just me or does anyone else think Chris will dominate Machida?? I honestly don't think it will be close at all.

    This.

Machida is all well and good when he's dancing around and throwing a punch every 2 minutes at Phil Davis, but Weidman will go after him and I don't think Machida will handle him. Can't see past a Weidman win here TBH!

I know its stupid but i dont see weidman as a great champ and still doubt him alot. He has done nothing spectacular only in the people he has beaten. Kind of like Muller for germany, doesnt seem to rank high on people's best footballers and your not sure what he does great although well rounded but he keep scoring shedloads of goals.

Anyway im looking forward to an interesting fight and would bet on machida all the way.

This took me a second or two. They've given Hall an opponent who isn't afraid to stand and trade so hopefully he will give the crowd what they want.

Can't remember his last decisive win or a win that was truly impressive. Not saying Chris will walk through him but I genuinely believe Chris has the edge on the feet and on the ground.

Isn't it to try and bump the PPV buys? Have what should be a good fight on last and fellas might make the last minute decision to plump the cash?

Well that would be a consideration I'm sure but the main motivator would definitely be boosting ratings on FS1. They're putting astronomical sums of money into the UFC and they expect a return.

Getting a few thousand more last minute PPV buys would be a nice little sweetener of course, that goes without saying.

Edge on the ground sure but on the feet? I think Machida is superior on the feet. I can see Machida being a dominant champion in this division. It is a seriously intriguing fight though!

Some division here between Machida & Weidman. I think Weidman will take it and hurt Machida early. Would nearly add a poll if I could to see how many here think Machida/Chris will win.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,961 ✭✭✭✭mailburner

Another vote for machida here as long as he can keep
    weidman off him
Think machida will make weidman look very slow myself
Don't see how he's going to cope with machidas speed

machida points 4/1 is one I'm happy to go with

like a few of ye here I'm not convinced about weidman
just a shame the first fight with silva didnt go on longer, fair to
say there was only going to be one outcome there.
much improved second time round though

if weidman wins this I hope he stays champ for years
you couldnt not like the guy

Some are doubting his credentials and the manner in which he claimed the belt but this fight will be the making of him as champ if he wins it.

Also a win over Machida carries far more street cred than a win over Belfort in my opinion.

    Just too difficult to call.

+1 on the previous post that said its impossible not to like him. Very humble guy.

It was an unfortunate series of events that seen him best Silva twice without being considered undoubtedly the best.

Interesting, Faber actually requested to be main event on Prelims to get more exposure to people who won't pay for PPV. Taken from Submission Radio interview.

On being on the UFC 175 Prelims
“You know, for me it actually makes a little more sense. It’s the main event on the free card, the Fox Sports 1 card, so you know I think as far as exposure goes, I'll probably get a wider view for more viewers that don’t have to pay. I think the PPV numbers haven't necessarily been as high as they used to be, so for me it makes more sense. I’m the featured fight on the free card right before the PPV, and I don’t get piece of that PPV anyway, so I’d rather more people
    watched the fights.”

Does he lose any money or PPV points by not fighting on the PPV?
"No, I’d much rather, I actually asked to be on the main event of the free card because that’s a fight that everybody's gonna see for free. And all the cheap skates aren't gonna be able to watch the PPV card. So for me it makes more sense to get the exposure, because it doesn’t affect me either way as far as pay goes.”

Silva was way better than Weidman will ever ever be. I hope there isn't one single person out there that believes the contrary... including Chris Weidman. He is literally champ because he caught Silva clowning and got lucky with a leg check end of story. True he is better than the rest bar Machida but his stock has risen way past any realistic level.

Machida is so much faster than Weidman it's not even funny he's gona be punching air and getting tagged constantly. Machida has the potential to clown Weidman and everyone else at 185 for a couple years...was always too small for 205.

    Rousey armbar <3 mins.

Poll for Weidman v Machida would be cool.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,963 ✭✭✭✭Zero-Cool

    Machida
I agree Silva is on a whole other level and got caught acting silly in the 1st fight but the 2nd was not fluke. It would be one thing if Chris was getting beat up and pulled off a lucky check but he was controlling that fight and in no danger, then checked a kick just like he had been practicing.

I'm actually hoping Weidman demolishes Machida. I actually like Machida but think Chris deserves some proper praise for his abilities. Man, can't wait to watch it now!

    Poll added.

One of the closest matches to predict in a long time.

I'll inch it for machida over a 5 rd decision. I just don't think weidmans timing is good enough to catch machida in the pocket.

Saying that I don't know who I'd like to win. Big fans of both guys.

    Very true.
He is literally champ because he caught Silva clowning and got lucky with a leg check end of story.

First fight, he knocked him clean out. That's why he's Champ.

Second fight was a freak accident, but it's not fair to try detract from the fact that Weidmann is deservedly Champ!

    Machida
You don't accidentally beat Anderson Silva twice. Just doesn't happen.

I see this fight as a classic grappler versus striker matchup. Despite Weidman being a decent striker and Machida being a decent grappler, the result will depend on whether Weidman can grab a hold of Machida or not. If he does, it's fight over but over 5 rounds, it's Machida. I don't see Machida finishing this tbh

This is pure rubbish. Second fight Weidman rocked Silva to his boots on the feet and was definitely the better fighter in the second fight. First fight it did look like Silva was getting into Weidmans head but Silva clowned too much, hardly Weidmans fault. If they fought again i would put Weidman as favourite.

If there was an option in the poll for people who think it's too close to call I think this would be the most popular pick.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,961 ✭✭✭✭mailburner

so much excitement for this fight and it'll probably end up
    being a very boring fight
think machida can only win this on points myself
I don't know how weidman will win if he does
I'm sure we'll see the best weidman yet if the improvement from
the first and second silva fight is anything to go by
suppose it'll be a big enough ask for machida to avoid
    chris for five rounds

weidman has a good chin so he should last the five rounds anyway :p

Do we have to pay for prelims?? I'm signed in an it's telling me it's €8 for the prelims...? Aren't they free when you're a fight pass member?

Don't mind paying €18 for the event but not paying for the prelims too when I already pay the sub per month.

    Which prelims?

The first 2 fights should be free. If the rest of the undercard is on FightPass (the one topped by Faber vs Cacaeres) then I'd imagine you need to pay for that.

That was a quick return for Kevin Casey to the UFC. Hadn't heard about him in a long while. Never knew he had been released.

That guy Casey fought was like some kind of generic journeyman from a video game. Bubba Bush from Texas who pulls mean faces at the start of the fight and then gets knocked out in the first minute.
