Here's to a show of spirited defending by Iran or an exhibition of attacking masterclass by Argentina.

    2-0 to Iran

Really looking forward to this match. Hopefully Argentina can put in a much better performance than they did against Serbia.

    Serbia?

They will need a better performance than against Bosnia to please the fans.

lesson learnt by sabella, gone for the classic lineup which got them here rather the 5-3-2 which was nearly disastrous against bosnia.

    Whoops meant Bosnia.

Hoddle at some spoofing. Time for Gerrard to go. He's no Pirlo.

Looking forward to watching Argentina. Such a strong starting lineup.

If this is half as good as Iran's last outing we're in for a treat.

    Rip-roaring 0-0.

    Argentina to hammer these.

    Come on Iran!!

If Iran win this I might start taking those match fixing rumours seriously.

Why is Iran down as IRN and not IRA!? 😛

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,398 ✭✭✭✭Turtyturd

10 minutes in and the best player in the world not named Suarez has barely had a touch. Time to step it up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,317 ✭✭✭kevohmsford

Great chance for Higuain. Argentina will score soon enough.

Maradona looking well and looks to be still 'scoring' crackers ;)

Really nice play from Argentina. Aguero denied by the keeper.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,317 ✭✭✭kevohmsford

    Iran have parked the bus.

Clive Tyldesley - "A lot of the Iranian players display their Christian names on their shirts"

Somehow I don't think they are Christian names if they are Iranian.

Aguero deserved a slap for that with the corner flag. Not like his team have infinite time with which to score

Messi is just casual strolling around, does he always look this not arsed?

Agreed, that should be a booking.

Aguero was pretty ignorant with that corner flag business. I'm surprised the ref didn't make him re-set it himself.

Given his form any attempt to replace the flag would have resulted in it further away than when he began.

My guess is so people dont think its Iraq who would probably be displayed as IRQ if it was them who were competing.

Messi being stifled with relative ease.

Best player in the world but if he wants to top Maradona he needs to perform in this WC.

At the UN IRE sits between IRN and IRQ, just sayin' (well more interesting than the game so far)

I dont understand why a manager would want to play Gago and masch against Iran

England would have scored against Iran*

    *under different management

Higuain's contribution has been negative overall, Aguero zero and Messi barely positive. Any scrap of a chance has been a centre half up for a set piece.

What little shape and balance they have would be destroyed by not playing Mascherano

The rumours of discontent in the Argentina dress g room definitely look to be true. They are attached king a lot, but genuinely don't seem too bothered about of the ball goes in or not. Granted it has only been the first half, but there is very little urgency and a number of them appear to be paying the game at about 75% effort.

Credit has to go to Iran as well though, Quieroz might not be cut out for the top jobs it he certainly knows how to create a defence regardless of what talent he does or does not have available to him.

If this were a Ronaldo team though, he would be getting hockey'd by the commentators and then through all of halftime for the scoreline.

Thought the same with regards the rumours of discontent. Argentina appear to have a large amount of disdain for Iran and aren't giving this their all. Messi looks like he couldn't give a ****e. Higuain and Aguero are anonymous. Only Di Maria looks up for it.

You need to do it against big teams but you never have 2 DM against the likes of Iran who are just having 11 men behind the ball. Masch and Gago no creativity at all. But I look at their subs and I can see why they play those players.

Iran are awful, hopefully Bosnia do the business tonight and send the Nigerians and Iranians home

I find it very entertaining to see such an incredibly limited team like Iran succeeding at shutting out a powerhouse like Argentina.

Aguero is playing really well. Iran are incredibly disciplined. Impressed with Argentina. Messi is always walking - that's messi these days - but beyond that the team is playing rather well.

Yeah, not a great game but sort of enthralling.

Sigh. Another World Cup where Argentina flatter to deceive.

No they are not... they are extremely lacking in talent and are still keeping in games against opposition with much bigger names.

To be honest if anything, relative to their talent level Argentina have been pretty awful the first 2.5 games of this tournament.

The late game last night was more entertaining than this ****e..

Can't agree they're playing well. They've had only one or two sniffs of the goal, Iran have almost had as many chances. The bigger teams won't be scared looking at this game or the Bosnian game.

higuain has been poor, messi looks disconnected from the team, gago is so slow on and off the ball and his distribution is so laboured. he is supposed to do what pirlo does for italy, but he aint up to it
