Will a DVD-R work in a blu-ray player?

I want to order a DVD-R off the internet to watch in my Blu-ray player (Panasonic DMP-BD45). The seller says that the DVD-R will work in all DVD players but he has no idea whether it will work in a Blu-ray player. Does anyone know?

its not if the dvd-r will play but whether the contents will play. I am pretty sure the disc itself will be readable. But depending on the content your player/pc may not be able to play.

Can you not just get a dvd copy of whatever it is?

The disc itself is compatible http://shop.panasonic.com/shop/model/DMP-BD45?t=specs&support#tabs

Unfortunately the programme I want has never been released on DVD, only VHS tape. I've emailed ITV a couple of times asking them to release it on DVD but they don't answer. The seller I've found online has made DVD-R copies from a VHS tape.

I have made many dvds from old vhs tapes and never had a problem playing them back on either of my two Panasonic blu=ray recorders. You should be ok but if the original is off of vhs the quality will be seriously degraded. TMULL
