What's a pizza delivery job like?

How well do you need to know the area, you're delivering in? Are you paid on an hourly basis, or per delivery? Is there really that much tipping? How much of the job actually involves delivering, and if there are other duties to the job too?

I've heard that it's a dangerous job. Apparently if one pizza delivery guy falls over the rest do too. It's called the Dominoes effect.

Pizza / Takeaway deliveries generally work like this:
You get a flat rate for working the night from the takeaway. Say 40 euro. Then you get to keep the delivery charge. It's all tax free and into the backpocket.

As for knowing the area, it helps to have a decent knowledge. But we live in a day and age of satnavs. But they can be a bit unreliable on newer estates. As for tipping, most people generally tip. But only the odd euro or two.

    who delivers frozen?

The delivery people that supply the pizza shops.

Honestly, its shít. You spend lots on Petrol, you earn crap money, some people tip (never the rich ones) and you'll get stopped by the guards about 5 times a night. Also, your car will permanently smell like pizza (thats not a good thing, really!!)

    1) If you've sat nav then a halfway decent knowledge would do ya.

    2) Big chain: paid by the hour. Independent: per delivery

    3) No other duties.

Mate did it in college. Paid his credit union loan and a bit of beer money, so it's not the worst job in the world. Depends on the area I suppose.

Incidentally, why dafuq do you think mods ban for sarcasm, this is after hours, it's practically a prerequisite.

Depends on who you work for.

I knew a guy who worked for the local pizzeria. He would take one slice of pizza from every one he delivered and put it in a fresh box. When the pizza was complete he would sell it on the 'side' to make a few extra pound.

Only 1 of the big chains pay per hour, Dominos. All the rest pay about 3/4€ per hour then about 1.50/2€ per drop

but obviously you'd be using the company's pizza van! YOU should know that if you've delivered pizzas!!

Would your car insurance cover you in the event of an traffic collision as one would be using the car for work purposes?

Op if you want tips go to New York delivering pizzas, in Ireland we normally don't tip as we pay enough already. Also here your wages don't depend on tips.

It tends to be your own car. Do you get any money for petrol or is that paid by yourself?

Some one who used to deliver pizza told me that you must 'sit' on the pizza as you are driving to the destination to keep it warm. Not sure how true this is.

Best not to wear any pants either, get good skin contact for heat transfer.
