    Royal Hunt Cup 5:00

Santefisio ran a superb race last year in the Buckingham Palace here when 4th off this mark. He comfortably won the race on his side and I think he may well be suited by the step up in trip. His last 2 runs have looked to have him back to form and I’m pretty sure than this race has been his target. 50/1 looks good value for good Ascot Form which means a lot here.

1 Point EW 50/1 5 Places Stan James / Ladbrokes

Also in this race Trumpet Major’s form on good or faster ground is very good and as well as he ran last time I think he will be better here over 1 furlong shorter as all his form is over 1 mile. He could well be the class horse of the race and a rating of 106 looks a tad generous as he was a solid 114 horses only 18 months ago. He has had just 2 runs this year and I wouldn’t be surprised if this was his target.

    1 Point win 18/1 Betfair/Ladbrokes

Keeping an eye on Santefesio doing a repeat of running in the Royal Hunt Cup before stepping up considerably for the Buckingham Palace. 50s too big for this though as well.

Yeah i say that it's possibly it'll be the same this year, ill be chancing him both times for sure. Ascot form is everything in these big handicaps..

Lamar a big price at 33/1 in the last. Not far off in group and listed races and the maiden she won has thrown up a good few winners.

    +1 on trumpet major
His last race he travelled well into the lead and then emptied in the last furlong so a furlong less is spot on
    Also like mukahdram w/o treve

3.05: Two at the head of the market hold obvious claims. Wesley Ward's Spanish Pipedream @ 11/4 will relish the test for same reasons as today's easy winner.
Ward's first groundbreaking visit to Ascot came five years ago in 2009, when he recorded a landmark double with the juvenile pair Strike The Tiger (Windsor Castle) and Jealous Again (Queen Mary).

The highly regarded Spanish Pipedream, who won a Keeneland maiden on her most recent start, could contest the Queen Mary, in which Ward saddled Sweet Emma Rose to finish second in 2013.

"They're not quite No Nay Never, but they really do stack up," said Ward. "I think Spanish Pipedream is definitely better than Sweet Emma Rose and possibly as good or better than Jealous Again."

Anthem Alexander @ 7/2 , like Wow Signal today, is out of in-form sire Starspangledbanner. Showed tremendous speed lto at Tipp despite being in season that day, will obviously love the ground and trained by the best sprint trainer around.

Cat is out of the bag with Ward's though and can see his only getting shorter. Still an unknown after all so if that happens, may just do the reverse forecast and Lynam's to win.

3.45: Treve will win, streets ahead of the rest imo and absolutely no shame in being beaten by multiple Gr1 winner CDA lto. A massive Magician fan and he has his good ground but his form isn't as strong as i once thought it'd prove. Still think he's classy enough to follow Treve home without troubling her. Straight forecast.

4.25: i know Sky Lantern @ 9/2 is set to be carrying a bit of condition and a Gr1 penalty but she's the best horse in the race, ground will be perfect and race could be set up for her. Certify @ 14/1 for the saver. Definitely has the ability imo and willing to give her another chance after the poor Dubai run given her lengthy lay-off.

5.00: Gabriel's Kaka ew @ 22/1 - form on good ground, Spencer a bonus in the plate around Ascot in big handicaps, should outrun his price.

Is there any talk of watering? Fancy three tomorrow myself, firmer the ground the better again I reckon for these

3.05 Anthem Alexander: Half sister to Dandy Man, by Starspangledbanner, trained by Eddie Lynam, it all just screams potential top class sprinter in the making!

4.25: Certify: She was in season for her last run and you'd imagine she could have bounced also after the long lay off. Gets a couple of pound from Sky Lantern who she's beaten before but is about 4 times the price at 14/1.

5.00 Gabrials Kaka: Forget the Chester run, from what I remember he hated the track and wouldnt have liked the soft ground either. Hate backing anything Spencer rides but I like this ones chances tomorrow.

    2.30 - That Is The Spirit 14/1 e/w

Still think there is more to come from TITS, (hehe) was worth more than the winning margin when he won by a nose from Parbold last time.He is still improving and think he could run a nice race.

Also had a nice bet on Treve, nothing in that field will get near her.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,775 ✭✭✭✭Slattsy

Going to give Sudirman a chance in the first. Think he's better than he's shown recently and didnt like the soft ground.
At 16/1 i'll take a bit of each way.

Anyone worried about Treve on proper good to firm ground?? Magician and The Fugue are all about firm ground so i dont think its a one horse race.

Finally, i've a hankering for Burano in the Royal Hunt Cup. Laid out for this after a few sighters. Hand brake off tomorrow ;)

Integral should be spot on for the Windsor Forest after running very well at Newmarket on seasonal debut. Weak in the betting that day. Looks a typical improving Stoute older filly.

I see Rossoms tip (Lawmans Thunder) for the Hunt Cup was a pound off getting into the race?

Had a good look at Sudirman too. Am i right in thinking he's the only Gr1 winner in the field? Know it's juvenile form but this race is hardly anything special. As you say, good ground key to him.

i know she's a Motivator but Treve is a very light actioned horse (Dettori has been raving about how easy she moves) and has won on good before. Magician and The Fugue are obviously better for it but nether should get near her, even on their best form.

That brings back good memories. Had a right cut on that last year thanks to rossom. Looks well treated again.

Like surdiman aswell tomorrow 20/1 is too big. Should be good enough to at least place.

Certify also looks like a bit of value at 14s with valid excuse for last run

Lynams in 3 05 should go very close was visually very impressive the last day.

Have followed aidan with santefisio in hunt cup. Hugh taylor also put it up.

Looking forward to seeing treve hope she is as good as she could be. Be good to see magician also run well.

Royal Ascot 16:25 - Outright Betting Certify 12/1

ANTHEM ALEXANDER on paper looks perfect for this, half sister to Dandyman by Starspangledbanner. Getting on the skinny side at 7/2.

    2.30 Ascot

    That Is The Spirit 14/1

Ever since I saw him bolting up on debut at Doncaster back in May, I've felt That Is The Spirit could be a very good horse and having remained unbeaten in 3 starts to date I don't see any reason for David O'Meara's gelding to be anything but that. Having landed a few tidy bets over 7f when routing a decent enough field on debut, That Is The Spirit was pitched into a tough 18 runner handicap at York's Dante meeting under top weight off a mark of 90 where he extended his career record to 2-2 as he bolted up again despite showing inexperience late on when he wandered out in front. That Is The Spirit was pitched into a Listed contest on his 3rd and final start at Epsom on Oaks day and although a photograph was needed to confirm his unbeaten record remained intact I thought he was much, much more comfortable than the margin suggests. Sent to the front in what has been his traditional style thus far, That Is The Spirit looked to have put the contest to bed when he quickened off the front in a decisive move at about the 3 pole and the gap he had created was still the same 1f out where Danny Tudhope thought he had the race sewn up as he eased up a bit on That Is The Spirit who nearly got caught by the late rattle of Parbold. I'm absolutely sure that a convincing win would have been the result had Tudhope ridden That Is The Spirit all the way to the line and I think he's going to come on a lot for that run both physically and mentally. On the evidence thus far, That Is The Spirit has looked far from the finished article from a mental standpoint as he has had a good look around on more than one occasion before getting a bit lonely in front and I think the experience of a large Oaks Day crowd well strengthen his mental resolve and the sharp, undulating nature of Epsom's track will have taught him greatly. Drawn today in stall 20, Tudhope has the option of sticking close to the nearside rail or merging with a group down the middle and if there is any bias at Ascot it looks to be with those drawn high judged by the Windsor Castle Stakes that closed the opening day's card. Although this is a tough contest, the brilliant O'Meara has stated that he feels this could be his best horse to date and I certainly think he is a very decent horse and at 14/1 I fancy him to extended his unbeaten winning sequence to 4.

    4.25 Ascot

    Certify 14/1

Charlie Appleby's filly Certify looks incredibly overpriced given that she has won 5 of her 6 career starts and if correctly putting a line through her latest disappointing 4th when apparently in season then her price looks absolutely bonkers. Formerly trained by Mahmood Al Zarooni, Certify was crowned Europe's Champion 2 year old filly at the end of 2012 when she rounded off her debut season with an impressive victory in the Group 1 Shadwell Fillies Mile at Newmarket in September that year. Going into her 3 year old season one of the main early season contenders, Certify's career was derailed with the shock announcement of Al Zarooni drug scandal and with this filly found to have had Anabolic Steroids in her system she was banned from racing until late 2013 and was subsequently put away for the rest of that season. She finally made her reappearance to the track on the back of a 489 day absence at Meydan where she showed she had lost no class when readily winning a Group 2 to take her career record to 5-5 and it was 21 days later where she disappointed when apparently in season as she finished a disappointing 4th (had easily disposed of the winner that day at Meydan 3 weeks earlier) and I definitely don't think she gave her true running that day. She's been subsequently freshened up for 118 days since that poor display and I think she looks primed to run a huge race today. Boasting a victory over 2nd favourite and last years 1,000 Guineas winner Sky Lantern from their 2 year old careers, Certify undoubtedly has the talent to play a huge role in this field today and if ready to do herself justice tomorrow I think she could surprise a few at a 14/1 price tag that is absolutely insulting to what she has achieved on the track.

    5.35 Ascot

    Muteela 8/1

It's not original taking the favourite in a 24 runner contest but I absolutely adore the attitude of Mark Johnston's well bred filly Muteela who puts her unbeaten record on the line here today as she attempts to improve her career record to 4-4 and I think an 8lb rise to a mark of 95 for her most recent success is very fair and one I think she can definitely overcome. Having scored in a Lingfield AW maiden in October last year on sole 2 year old start, this half sister to Middle Park & Mill Reef winner Awzaan bolted up on handicap debut off a mark of 78 when making all in to win by 4L and I just loved her uncomplicated, resilient attitude that day. Upped 9lb to a mark of 87 and pitched into a better race against some nice unexposed types, she again answered that challenge as she made all before showing a really gritty attitude to repel a late challenger to score from a potentially very well handicapped rival in Pretzel and the handicapper's decision to only raise her 9lb to a mark of 95 looks a lenient one in my eyes. Drawn in stall 22, it's the same adage that applies for That Is The Spirit in that she could be well drawn as there seemed a bias towards high numbers yesterday and you've just got to hope she is in a race that will probably split into at least two groups given the fields size. If she is, I think its going to take a very well handicapped and resilient horse to stop her off a mark of 95 and I think 8/1 is a very fair price about her.

Not sure if to post this in Tips thread or here, was told a number of weeks back to have a few quid on Waltzing Matilda when she goes across the water. Goes today in the first in Ascot and is an attractive 40/1 with bet365 who are also paying first 4 home. Betway also paying first 4, only 2 bookies to do so.

At Uttoxeter I quite like Sur La Mer at 3/1 in the first race (2.10) and first start for Dan and Harry Skelton. Wasn't beaten far in a couple of maiden hurdles here in Ireland and this looks a very weak race, the favourite has some decent form but been really disappointing this season.
