    Hi folks,

I'm looking to hire an icecream van for after our ceremony, but I'm coming up with nothing online it seems. If anyone could recommend one for the Westport area it would be greatly appreciated.

Lovely lady again and very nice ice-cream. I think she said they normally charge around 1.50 per scoop or cone but that if people come back for seconds they don't charge again for it. I got from it was that ye pay first and then people just come up for it...If you go with then haha mention twas the girl and her mum at the equality wedding fair recommended!!

Next time you see and ice cream van in your estate just ask him if he can do it.
I've had to organise and icecream van to come to an event and that's what I did. You'll have to make sure someone has cash to pay on the day of course

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 30,661 Mod ✭✭✭✭Faith

Oh, I've just realised it's a van, not a cart you're after. Forget my suggestion. Butlers have a cart with artisan ice cream and I'm presuming it's more 99s that you're after. I know there's a crowd in cork (glanmire ice cream vans) or something, but I don't know if they'd travel to Westport.

I've been driving around estates in the town looking for one!!

We are thinking of doing this at our wedding for outside the church. We will have approx 200 guests.

I was wondering how this will be priced? would we say have to pay a flat fee of €200 and everyone who want ice cream can get one, or do we have to wait until the end and pay for all the ice cream that has been bought i.e. (150 people had a poke @ @1.50 each so we owe €225.

I think i would prefer the first option as it would be the least hassle on the wedding day.

I'm wondering that myself to be honest. As soon as i can track one down, and provided I'm not arrested for being a peeping-Tom in the estates around Westport, I'll put up here what I've negotiated!

Thanks 80s, we are getting married in Clare but i presume we should be able to negotiate a similar sort of deal with and ice cream man there.

Now, we got a number from a friend of ours for an ice cream van and I gave him a bell; a very straight up guy who has a few vans as it turns out. The standard charge is €50 and he charges per ice cream after that, so we're taking it to be about €200 - €250. The better half called to his van incognito the other day and she was impressed. All in all, happy out.

If anyone wants his number ( he works mainly in Mayo but may travel to Connaught I'd say) just pm me.

Thanks 80s child, 250 was around what we were expecting to pay swell. just as a matter of interest why is he charging the €50 if he is making money from all the ice cream. Surely he would make enough from the ice cream, more than he would be sitting at home or driving the streets.

I'm assuming it's due to the irish weather, that if he drives the 30 miles back, he isn't left out of pocket if it's lashing!!

    I guess so.

It's called the wedding industry, everything costs more when you add the word wedding into the mix.

Try asking for the van without mentioning wedding and see if the price changes.

We actually didn't ask for a wedding, we just told him that it was an event. The better half quized him also and got the same response.

    Howdy,

Well the big day is over and we had a blast, not flying till Thursday thanks be to god, shook as hell!!!

Now, the ice cream van; the day came good and it was very warm. The van pulled up in a perfect area, something i didn't think of with all the commotion. We had 260 at the wedding so it was great that there was two people working in the van but even with this, there was queues, so if you're having 200+ I would advise that you want 2 ppl.

They were great and extremely nice to the kids. It came in @ €390 which was more than we had budgeted for but the repsonse from people was mental, they were all raving about it, so the extra didn't bother me.

As aforementioned, If anyone wants his no. just pm me.

    Hope this helps!

    Hi 80s child
We are getting married next Summer in Newport and are looking at getting an icecream van for outside the Church. I saw your comment about getting an ice cream van for your wedding in Westport - could you please send me on his/her details?
Hopefully we'll get the weather for it!

My local is kind of famous for its ice-cream. They are a shop but they have a converted camper van and old Mini Cooper converted into ice cream parlours!

They are Dublin based, specifically Skerries, but I'd say they would be very willing to hire out the camper van and Mini together even. They are called Storm In A Teacup.

    Hi all,

Just a quick question re ice cream van hire.
I have one booked for our wedding however I'm now wondering if I'd prefer the cart to the van. Would anyone have any opinions on this?

We're going with Rockfield Ice Cream, such a lovely guy, and there are pictures on his website but basically if you had a choice would it be cart or van?
    Thanks a mill :)

We have him booked too very easy to deal with and very reasonable. We went with the vintage van.

Thanks so much for your reply.
Unfortunately the vintage van.is already booked on our date :(

As you've seen pictures of the other 2 options, which would you have preferred?:)

I think I would prefer the cart over the modern van. I was debating between the vintage van and cart and decided the van as it was noticeable to our guests. Either way they are both nice. Just comes down to taste.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,246 ✭✭✭jellybear

Yeah I think I'm changing my mind to the cart. We're going for a vintage theme so it would probably suit a lot better. I think I was drawn to the van because it's more noticeable but now I'm thinking it's a bit too noticeable if you know what I mean.
Too many decisions- maybe I should just elope!!:D

Not too much left. My dress, suits, rings and invitations. I think that's all, at least I hope so!! :D I'm actually going dress shopping in 2 weeks, very nervous incase nothing suits!! I'm also finding the invitations a nightmare, just can't settle on one for some reason.
Hope your plans are going well? :)

I'm probably around the same left.

I have venue, church, priest, band and DJ, photographer, cake and favours.

So I have dress, bridesmaid dresses, suits, rings, invitations, flowers and decor left.

I'm finding it hard to settle on invites too and not even going to look at dresses til sept or oct!
    When are you getting married?

We're getting.married in a stone house on the grounds of Moyvalley in Kildare, we're having a humanist ceremony and we're having the reception in Balyna House on the same grounds. It's an old mansion style home that we've rented for the day :)

    How about yourselves? :)

I'm from Dublin and fiancé is from tipp so we have met in the middle. I need to sort my hair and make up that's another thing!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,246 ✭✭✭jellybear

Awh that's lovely that you're meeting half way, makes perfect sense :)

Oh I'm actually very lucky my sister is a make up artist so that's a big thing sorted and I'm very particular about my hair so will do it myself :)

Have you decided on a honeymoon yet? We're thinking Sorrento but still need to look into it a bit more :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,772 ✭✭✭Jwacqui

Oh lucky!! My church singer is a friend and music teacher everything else is things we have to book.
We are thinking New York, Las Vegas and cancun he is looking after all that. Went and bought lots of lanterns in IKEA today

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,246 ✭✭✭jellybear

Ah no way, I've sorted ceremony music through family and friends too, it's great being able to have such a personal touch to the ceremony :)

Oh lovely. I've never been to New York or Cancun but Vegas is definitely an experience you should have in your life! :)

For anyone who has gotten a cart/van what happens if it's lashing the rain on your wedding day - chances of people wanting an ice - cream is less than if it's 30's degrees like.

We're talking 99s here. If I was blown past a van that was opened during the storm yesterday I'd have bought one.
