Hi folks,

I'm looking to hire an icecream van for after our ceremony, but I'm coming up with nothing online it seems. If anyone could recommend one for the Westport area it would be greatly appreciated.

Lovely lady again and very nice ice-cream. I think she said they normally charge around 1.50 per scoop or cone but that if people come back for seconds they don't charge again for it. I got from it was that ye pay first and then people just come up for it...If you go with then haha mention twas the girl and her mum at the equality wedding fair recommended!!

Next time you see and ice cream van in your estate just ask him if he can do it.
I've had to organise and icecream van to come to an event and that's what I did. You'll have to make sure someone has cash to pay on the day of course

Oh, I've just realised it's a van, not a cart you're after. Forget my suggestion. Butlers have a cart with artisan ice cream and I'm presuming it's more 99s that you're after. I know there's a crowd in cork (glanmire ice cream vans) or something, but I don't know if they'd travel to Westport.

We are thinking of doing this at our wedding for outside the church. We will have approx 200 guests.

I was wondering how this will be priced? would we say have to pay a flat fee of €200 and everyone who want ice cream can get one, or do we have to wait until the end and pay for all the ice cream that has been bought i.e. (150 people had a poke @ @1.50 each so we owe €225.

I think i would prefer the first option as it would be the least hassle on the wedding day.

I'm wondering that myself to be honest. As soon as i can track one down, and provided I'm not arrested for being a peeping-Tom in the estates around Westport, I'll put up here what I've negotiated!

Now, we got a number from a friend of ours for an ice cream van and I gave him a bell; a very straight up guy who has a few vans as it turns out. The standard charge is €50 and he charges per ice cream after that, so we're taking it to be about €200 - €250. The better half called to his van incognito the other day and she was impressed. All in all, happy out.

If anyone wants his number ( he works mainly in Mayo but may travel to Connaught I'd say) just pm me.

Thanks 80s child, 250 was around what we were expecting to pay swell. just as a matter of interest why is he charging the €50 if he is making money from all the ice cream. Surely he would make enough from the ice cream, more than he would be sitting at home or driving the streets.

I'm assuming it's due to the irish weather, that if he drives the 30 miles back, he isn't left out of pocket if it's lashing!!

It's called the wedding industry, everything costs more when you add the word wedding into the mix.

Try asking for the van without mentioning wedding and see if the price changes.

We actually didn't ask for a wedding, we just told him that it was an event. The better half quized him also and got the same response.

Howdy,

Well the big day is over and we had a blast, not flying till Thursday thanks be to god, shook as hell!!!

Now, the ice cream van; the day came good and it was very warm. The van pulled up in a perfect area, something i didn't think of with all the commotion. We had 260 at the wedding so it was great that there was two people working in the van but even with this, there was queues, so if you're having 200+ I would advise that you want 2 ppl.

They were great and extremely nice to the kids. It came in @ €390 which was more than we had budgeted for but the repsonse from people was mental, they were all raving about it, so the extra didn't bother me.

My local is kind of famous for its ice-cream. They are a shop but they have a converted camper van and old Mini Cooper converted into ice cream parlours!

They are Dublin based, specifically Skerries, but I'd say they would be very willing to hire out the camper van and Mini together even. They are called Storm In A Teacup.

Just a quick question re ice cream van hire.
I have one booked for our wedding however I'm now wondering if I'd prefer the cart to the van. Would anyone have any opinions on this?

We're going with Rockfield Ice Cream, such a lovely guy, and there are pictures on his website but basically if you had a choice would it be cart or van?

We have him booked too very easy to deal with and very reasonable. We went with the vintage van.
