The o2 seems a very big venue for them to play. I would expect the top tiers to be curtained off.

Tickets @ 33 quid is pretty good, nice to see a reasonably priced gig in the O2 for once

Saw these in the Olympia a couple of years ago, one of my Top 5 gigs ever. Fantastic stuff. Hope it translates well to the bigger venue

Are they big enough for the O2?

Great, was raging I missed them last time

Fooking sweet!!! Definitely going to get to this!

Are they big enough for the O2?

The same could be said about Slash, My Chemical Romance, Thirty Seconds to Mars, etc. Dublin has no good middle sized venue, so the O2 just books mid-sized acts and curtains off large sections of the seating area.

Wow, how many acts have headlined the o2 with only one album? Interesting gig although can't imagine more than 7000 heading along, wonder how much they need through the door to break-even.

That one album won the Mercury Award though!

I'm guessing by people's comments in this thread about them playing such a big venue, that it won't sell out straight away?

    I would be incredibly surprised.

True but that does not automatically bump you up to Arena's. Now maybe when the new album drops it will be massive and thats what they are predicting but i can see the top tier taped off

Aw yussssss, got my tickets! I've never seen them before so I'm really looking forward to it.

EDIT: I just went back to see what tickets I could choose from, rather than "best available" and there are no tickets on sale for the upper tier.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35 ConConKing

Ticket bought! I've only heard good things about their live set!
Why does it have to be on so far in the future? God dammit!

Tickets bought, really looking forward to this now :D

Saw them live twice and they weren't great. Good album though.

Heard they were class in the olympia.

The KEXP video on YouTube is very good.

Wondering the same thing. Got my tickets last week for standing. Checked back a day later and standing was sold out! Maybe there will be a bit of a crowd at it, we'll wait and see.

You'd think they'd have announced the supporting act long ago to help ticket sales. Probably some unknown band or none at all (I doubt they'd have no support though)

Doors open at 6.30, i'm guessing alt-j wont be out until 8.30-9ish so plenty of time to see both!

They mentioned that this was their first live show since December of last year, so I'm not surprised that the vocals sound a bit suspect in places, particularly with the new material. I have no doubt that will improve as they get accustomed to playing live again and their sound engineers figure out how to balance the channels in a live setting for the new material.

    *wipes brow*
Here's hoping! Will be third time to see them, thought they were great both times.

    full show from NYC

Unless they have a massive production I just can't see their sound working well in an arena type venue. I hope I'm wrong though!

Pretty sure the top half of the Three Arena is being curtained off for this, so they won't need massive production

I'm enjoying the new album. Not long to get to know the songs before the show but the setlist seems to be set in stone, drawing heavily from both albums

    Hi,

Does anyone have a spare stading ticket for Alt J? Or know anybody who doesn't want one anymore?

Great gig, really enjoyed it :D

Very surprised at how full the venue was. The lights and atmosphere were deadly, and the sound /vocals perfect!

    Fierce happy, so I am!

I commented a few times about how I thought it was a bad venue but.... holy **** it was packed tonight! I love a good Saturday gig and I think everyone else did too cos tonight was great. good vibe, good crowd, good atmosphere which is hard to come by. my main concern was that they wudnt have a proper arena light show but it was def up to standard.

im going to bed happy, bolloxd but happy! Great night

Biggest gig they've ever played he said! I couldn't believe the size of the crowd either and had a bad feeling going in that I'd spend half the night "shhhhhing" people who were yapping through songs... Not a bit of it. Everyone around me seemed enthralled, as was I. Bloodflood was a teeny tiny bit off at the beginning I thought, but hey! It's live music, he recovered well and everything else was note perfect. Lights were fantastic too. Had a wonderful night :D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,812 ✭✭✭Vojera

I really enjoyed it. A few bum notes here and there but nothing major. The lights were class, really well done.

Didn't enjoy being seated, though. There were still people being shown to their seats until during the 5th (!) song, and with the bar open there was constant movement of people in and out and up and down the stairs, which was pretty distracting.

Great gig, and I too thought it would be too big a venue for them, but they were brilliant.

Best gig this year, better than Arcade Fire.

I had a ticket for Block M, but just went out the door beside the door to the toilets and headed downstairs to the standing area. No bother.

Best gig I've been to , to date! Was a bit apprehensive after watching their live show in Manchester. I thought the vocals would be a bit weak but my God was I wrong!!! They absolutely nailed every song. The first 3 songs were absolutely immense. Hunger of the pine is a great opening song and straight in fitzpleasure after was just fantastic. I had shivers down my spine for most of the gig, particularly for Nara, which is my new favourite song from TIAY.

They were simply immense and the light show topped it off. The lights were an amazing spectacle to compliment an amazing performance from an amazing band. I'm also so glad they played pretty much all of An Awesome Wave.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,865 ✭✭✭flasher0030

Sorry this post does not relate to the gig.

I purchased their first album - An awesome wave. I've only listened to it twice. But I don't really get it. I am pretty open when it comes to music, and will give it several more listens. It has got amazing reviews, won several awards so there must be serious quality to it. But most of what I hear is the singer just making up random noises. Haven't a clue as to what he is saying.

I'm hoping that it's one of those albums (like Wild Beasts, or Future Islands) that grows on you after several listens. Is that the general experience?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,243 ✭✭✭symbolic

    Is that the general experience?

My experience.. Saw them support Ghostpoet in Whelans and thought, these guys are great. Had a song stuck in my head the next day and with some YouTubeing found out it was breezeblocks. So it was love at first sight for me!

Didn't head to the O2 at the weekend, shocked at the size of the crowd from the pictures. Fairplay to them!
