Mech Engineering Application WIT

    Hi,
    I have applied to go back as a mature student this year (age 30) and want to do Mech Engineering at WIT as my first preference. Just kinda worrying about a few things.

    1. I was a bit of a Jack The Lad in school. Was more interested in drinkin than the leaving cert so as a result I only did Foundation Maths despite the Maths teacher protesting that I do otherwise. Even though I ended up with an A will this stand against me?

    2. Whats the demand like for engineering courses if possible specifically in WIT and how difficult would it realistically be to obtain a place as a mature student?

    3. If all goes as planned and I indeed get my placement, 4 years or so down the line what realistically would the job prospects of a 34/35 year old Mech Eng Grad?

    Impossible to know or give definitive answers really

    1) Most people do higher maths but there are plenty of learning aids in third level places now. I personally found the maths specific modules bizarre but the other modules which contained maths elements understandable.

    2) I don't know, it'd be best to ask someone in WIT that. Either the head of the course or the course secretary should be able to help there.

    3) The same as most other graduates to be honest. Medical devices are where it's at at the moment so keep that in mind. To get the best idea of what it's like at the moment go on to Irishjobs.ie and look at the engineering section.
