If you want to bulk up when is the best time to take whey, before or after weight training?
I googled the question but there is no consensus :(

Won't matter all that much either way.

its amazing how many people out there believe that whey is a magic drink for bulking or weightloss. every few days there's a similar post or thread. taking whey years myself but just to aid recovery, increase protein intake and its quick and handy to have directly after a workout. Don't know why it has the rep that it has

Timing doesn't matter. Take it when is most convenient for you. For info on timing and supplements etc I'd recommend this series of articles LINK. Some good info in there.

Timing matters considerably! You need to take it within twenty/thirty minutes after your workout, this is the window of time your muscles start to repair themselves after you've broken them down. Whey protein is fast digesting so it gets to your muscles quickly. If you dont have the protein within this time frame then you wont make as significant progress as you should/could

This is a myth. Yes there's an anabolic window but it lasts several hours after working out not some made up 30 minute window.

You will make the same gains if you took it an hour later as you would if you took it 5 minutes after. Odds are you're not training completely fasted so you're going to have amino acids floating around ready to repair when necessary.

I disagree, if supplementation/nutrition is delayed for more than 30 minutes to 45 minutes after the workout then you WILL significantly reduce protein synthesis and muscle glycogen replenishment.

Well then you're living in the stone age. This was debunked a long time ago.

Immediately beforehand and at some stage afterwards. From what I recall, pre-workout protein has a greater effect on muscle synthesis/recovery than that taken subsequent to the workout.

But compared to your overall nutrition and quality of training, its pretty insignificant.

Overall diet will be far far more important than timing.

Makes perfect sense from an evolutionary perspective

So with this reduced glycogen replenishment. What happens to the remaining carbs? They just disappear.
And wouldn't this cause a reduced glycogen capacity? So that'd mean athletes who regularly train longer than 90 minutes have no chance to refuel inside this window, as it has closed while they are still training.
    Sounds legit.

Did you learn that off the back of your whey tub?
