seen the links today, any worthwhile upgrades or is it mostly bug fixes?

    edit**
Just checked its mainly "security enhancements" (that may effect Root) and bug fixes for camera and data

Think ill just wait myself :D

Mostly bug fixes and the dialer is different. I don't know if it's a placebo but the N5 camera seems to be much better at focusing.
Not a placebo that was one of the specific fixes to be included. Also there are no security enhancements which affect 'root' but they are in the pipeline for a future release.

There is no need to use any fancy tools to update with the factory images whilst not wiping user data. You only need to remove the '-w' flag from the update command in the flash-all script. Bear in mind though that will wipe your recovery and you'll have to flash it again but that's handy enough. You'll probably also have to root it again but again thats handy enough with a custom recovery.

Be interesting to see when I get this on my Nexus 7 2013 and Moto G.

I'm interested in the WiFi switching fix, hoping it's a fix that allows android to automatically switch access points with the same SSID.

If you cannot wait for the OTA update to land on your Nexus 5 or other Nexus devices, you can always flash the factory image manually to get Android 4.4.3 up and running on it in no time. The steps below will not wipe your data but requires users to have an unlocked bootloader on their Nexus devices, which is a bummer.

    Quote from here
Note: make sure to follow all the steps in the above link or you could end up wiping your device.

So I think you would be better off waiting for the OTA!

Has anyone seen the OTA on their devices yet?
I've only seen reports of it being available on Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 (2013) but I assume we are still in the first stage of rollout which apparently only 1% of devices receive.

Powered off/on the nexus 10 just now and was notified the OTA update was available.
Installing now. No sign of it on N7 (2013) or N4.

I got the update last night on my Nexus 5. The new Dialer is the only obvious difference so far.

Just got the option to update on my *rooted* Nexus 7 but when it went to install it said Failed and now it's back to 4.4.2 saying it's up to date.

Mine popped up too, gone away now though.

I'm not too bothered though so I'll just wait.

I had that problem on previous updates that is why I flashed the factory images.

First try turning off OTA survival in SuperSU, reboot your device and try updating again. (or download the OTA zip)

    Have you stickmount installed?

If that fails, you more than likely have to flash the factory images to update.
There is a way to do it, with out losing your apps and data.

How to install Android 4.4.3 on your Nexus 5, Nexus 4 and Nexus 7

Make sure to follow step 7 so you don't loose your data.
    7. Extract the contents of the Factory image inside the same android folder that you had created in Step 3.

[Optional] If you don’t want to lose your data whilst flashing the factory image, open up the flash-all.bat file and remove -w from the fastboot update line. Mac and Linux users will need to open and edit the flash-all.sh file. If you are coming from a custom ROM or kernel, do not follow this step as you will have to wipe the data.

    Regards
    John

    Any ideas?

On the plus side I can now cast more to my Chromecast, including videos on FB

I think that has more to do with a previous chrome update than the OTA.

Also allcast if you have it added a feature to cast from browsers, but I have yet to figure out how to use the feature of allcast.

    Wtf?

Updates are staggered and random. Google gradually increase the number flagged for updating each day. Helps ensure the whole install base are not hit by any bugs at once.

I have a normal unrooted nexus 5 and just got the notification for the system update. If I do it, will it wipe everything from my phone, or are my messages and apps safe?

    It won't delete anything.

I haven't received the update yet. The OS never had word suggestions if you were searching within the nav bar, only within the google.com search text box.

I got it last night on my Nexus 5. I have a custom recovery installed and the update didn't install after the reboot.

Does anyone know where it downloads to in the Android filesystem?

Also check my other posts in the thread on how to flash the factory images to your device (without wiping data). If your custom recovery is blocking the use of the OTA file.

The update will generally fail if you have installed any apps to the system app folder.
So removing any such apps and trying the update again might help.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 882 ✭✭✭cosanostra

My GT-19505G which is really 19505 is being prompted to do the system update its rooted and with twrp, anyone know the best way to proceed I presume doing the OTA is not an option

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,414 ✭✭✭Fluffy88

AFAIK you can go ahead and do the OTA even with a custom recovery, once you haven't installed/deleted/replaced any apps to/in the system partition.

The OTA will replace the custom recovery with the stock one, but that's easily reversible and it will probably remove root, again easily reversible.

But none of this is known for sure either, depends on what is in the update. There is no harm in trying it at least.

would the fact that i flashed stock android not cause a problem

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,414 ✭✭✭Fluffy88

    Oh, well that's different.
If you've flashed a different ROM on the phone then I don't know, I can't really be of much help there, sorry.

I actually think it'll be fine installing the OTA with the SuperSU.apk still in the system partition.
I managed to install the OTA without removing the app or root.

Once the OTA is finished you lose root and have to re-root your phone but the SuperSU.apk was still in the system partition and I had no issues.

    I'll try that alright.

Now I keep getting the... System is updated message so I'll have to wait.
