    Hi,
Am a very unfit at the moment ( 30 yo male, 85kg ) but want to change that. Currently my only exercise is a random walk at a brisk pace.
I don't really enjoy running. Can anyone recommend a good exercise program that you can do at home without much expense?
I bought a cheap rowing machine two years ago, never touched it again after three days ( it really hurt my shoulders and had a crap seat ), would an exercise bike from argos ( ~€150, york ) be worth money? Or should i learn to walk before i run so to speak?

    Hi,
Its sounds like an obvious answer, but the best exercise for you, is the one you enjoy.
Very few people enjoy running when they start and are unfit. I certainly found it torture until I got slightly fit and I caught the bug.

I would avoid spending money on equipment unless you know that you will use it. Does it have to be at home ? Do you have a real bike.

The best general advice is to get out there and exercise. Start small, try new things, but exercise 3 times a week - swim, cycle, walk briskly, visit a gym. Anything, but you must establish and stick to a routine that you take exercise 3 times a week.

Also, weight loss will help. it will make all exercise easier and you will make gains and enjoy yourself more.

    Good luck,

Walk briskly every day for 30 mind, download the MyFitnessPal app and log your food religiously.

If you can do that every day for the next two weeks, without fail, THEN start thinking about buying equipment.

Try an actual bicycle or swimming. Swimming is the best exercise you can do for your whole body without being high impact and hurting your joints.

Running sucks at first like mentioned earlier in this thread, your body needs time to get used to it...so the more you do it, the easier it will get. Sometimes in order to get in shape you have to do exercises you don't necessarily enjoy, but carry high benefit.

If you're going to recommend something that should be done regardless of whether or not the OP will enjoy it to begin with then weight training would give you a lot more bang for your buck than running.

While also being far more enjoyable and rewarding, IMO of course.
