BSM Draft League - Possible New GW

Am thinking about setting up a new Gameworld (GW), something slightly different than the boards leagues we already play in.

Of course any GW is only going to be as good as the interest shown in it, and so that is the point of this thread.


The Idea:

The idea is that it will contain the top clubs from across Europe mainly, but that the GW will start with empty squads, hence the Draft bit up above.

I am hoping to get 20 players, but a minimum of 16 is the interest level needed to make it a reality. This will allow:

2 Divisions of 10, playing each other 4 times - 36 Games a season, or
2 Divisions of 8, playing each other 4 times - 28 Games a season.

Clubs will be assigned randomly once the manager list is populated.

Following on from that point the idea will be then to do 5 rounds of picking players, here in this thread as follows;

Round 1: GK
Round 2: DEF
Round 3: MID
Round 4: FWD
Round 5: Wildcard, Any Position.

Obviously some players are versatile so as long as the player can play the position for the round he is eligible to be picked.

The 1st round order will be randomly generated, the 2nd round will be the reverse of this. The 3rd round will be randomly generated, the 4th round will be the reverse of this. The 5th round will be randomly generated.

After round 5 of drafting each club will have 5 players picked. This is the bit that needs honesty and so only honest people need apply :pac:.

Day one of the GW clubs will only be allowed bid on their 5 drafted players, and their drafted players only and hopefully by some point on day 2 each club will have signed their drafted players. With honesty and co-operation this shouldn't pose any problems.

After that word will be given in this thread to allow the free for all where you will be free to bid on the remaining players you will need to fill your squad.

I propose clubs will only be able to bid on 8 players at any time from this point to avoid pandemonium, insanity and the blowing of budgets as we will all be working to a budget.

The budget will be the maximum allowed £300Million, which all clubs will start with. Obviously care will need to be taken to ensure you have enough to field a minimum squad which i think is 21.

I also think that of you have not reached this point by the required time, the GW will automatically draft players you may not want into your squad.

There is no reason why you cannot daft two players from the 1 club, but you must bare in mind that you can only have one active deal with any one club at any one time. If you want to make things difficult for yourself be my guest .

Obviously more than 20 clubs, and some not from Europe. I wanted to have rival clubs and was trying to pick the bigger stadiums as that will matter at some stage.

Yeah the teams we start with will be empty, they players that would normally populate them will all be free agents.

I am not 100% on everything that happens when you select the start with empty teams option though :pac:

Out of curiosity, is it possible to set a max limit on squad sizes? If so it will prevent teams from completely saturating the game world.

Just waiting one one more player for the minimum 16, then will see if people want to proceed with 2 leagues of 8.

After that we can discuss the details like that and see what people think.

So we all pick a keeper in order of listing then onto defenders in reverse order... and so on... is that right? Or we all pick 5 players and then go hell for leather on the rest? 1 at a time would give everyone a good chance though it will take a while!!

he will assign us numbers for rounds 1 and 2.

1 - 16.

Round 1, 1 goes first 16 goes last.
Round 2, 16 goes first 1 goes last.

New numbers assigned for rounds 3 and 4, same rules.

new numbers for round 5.

You pick 1 player per round.

If I remember right the list we have will be randomised for player selection, each person on the list after the random generation picks a player, then for the next player the selection is done in reverse order.

It's actually good as that means no one can feel hard done by signing up to the GW late as with random generation everyone gets a fair whack.

So can we agree on 2 leagues of 8? Then playing each other 4 times.

Not the most important thing right now as i won't set the GW up until after the draft stage, but if people prefer 1 division we can go down that route.

I was trying so everyone club would have a domestic rival. Not important but an added bit of fun. Now I am thinking Marseille look a little bit out of place.

Does it matter too much as we will be starting from scratch anyways?

Do i add 1 of Liverpool or Juventus, or do I add both and cut Marseille and PSG.

When we have a club list, i propose to do the following.

Add the 16 clubs to a list on random.org and it will generate a random order.
Get someone else (Wilberto) to add our 16 user names and it will generate a random order.

Then marry up the two lists from top to bottom and that will give us our club.


For the picking order I am just going to throw the usernames in again and it will generate a list and proceed as set out in the first post.

Swoody it will get too complicated having a bidding war I think? It was anticipated just picking in the order of the random draws.

Hopefully next time i login (this eve) the club list will have been decided.

I think 2 divisions myself. Always good to have to try and have the threat of relegation and the chase for promotion. Easier to lose interest if you're mid table all the time.

I would also like to see a small squad cap of approx 30. That gives you 2 x 11 to alternate between cup and league games and up to 8 prospects. Personally I don't like when a couple of teams hoard all the young players.
