Relief milking rates?

Hey just wondering what is the going rate now for doing relief milking, I need to get someone later in the summer and wanna know what I should pay him?

i am milking at the moment for a lad,most times hes milking as well.25 euro a go.

40 euro a milking all year round, 140 cows now or 70 in the winter

We pay €50 per milking regardless of number going through parlour.

€40 normally here, but €50 if it's a busy time of yr with calves to be fed, cubicles to be scraped and limed etc. although I tend to not take any milkings off in the busy period unless I have to.

To be fair he said he's milking with the man in this case, so v little responsibility, so prob works out at €10/hr which is what I pay for labour. Most of using I'd think are quoting how much to do a milking when we're away, which is a totally different story

25 euros for 90 mins work and i pass the place going to check my cattle,a no brainer from my point but i was always working for a lot less than all you big girls:P

What sort of a car are you driving!

If you did fourteen milkings a week it would be 350 euros.

A lot more than you would get scrathing you hole and complaining that there are no jobs.

Its not days its a couple of hours morning and evening

It is days because when you milk someones cows you cannot hold down any other work.

lad that milks for me has cows done by 7.45am ,goes off does his days work and can be back at half 5 to do evening milking. you can work around it...

One of my relief milkers works in the local coop, does my milkings before and after work, a nice top up to his weekly wage. A fool, I think not!

€40 a milking or 70 for 2 ( or a day ) is what my man charges 80-90 cow's in a 10 unit no frills machine

Haven't a clue.. I just presume if one was milking the same amount of cows in a bigger parlour with cluster removers and automatic wash and the like you'd be alot quicker whether that would make one cheaper I couldn't say...

I pay 35 a milking, about hour and a halfs work in total,works out a little over 20 a hour i think. So much a milking is a rather grey pricing agreement if it takes ages to do.

Arent you great. I milk 200 cows every day for a lad then I go home and milk my own cows. Im not lazy but Im not a fool either. When someone expects you to milk there cows which is the most important job on the farm then you should be paid a proper rate not just above the minimum wage.

get off your high horse, leg wax said he milks with the farmer , not on his own, i think he is being paid fairly for what he is doing, obviously you dont think so

The number of cows won't be a big factor in price/milking as it probably takes roughly the same to milk 80 cows in a 10 unit parlour as it does to milk 140 in a 20 unit parlour. Maybe 5-10 mins difference. Guys with larger numbers of cows generally have more units.
I'd be happier paying 50 euros safe in knowledge that an experienced guy will pick up any sick cow and also draft any for bulling rather than 25 to inexperienced guy who could leave 2000litres of milk down the drain or forget to turn on cooler.

Look I have my own few cows too and if I wanted to go away or whatever I wouldnt expect anyone to come in to milk for me for
less than forty a milking.

Sounds like u don't take too many wkends off! At that kinda money my wife would wanna get used of taking our few days away mid wk!

Price is set by the Unions. Like it or lump it. That's for relief milking. Full time workers don't get that.

sheebadog, Is wages fierce high so. what would a normal agricultural worker be getting / week or monthly and how many hrs for that.
I say profit margin out of cows is abit small so:eek:

Thats what i was saying in a earlier post, the number of cows should have very little to do with the price it should be a hourly rate. As for that lad paying 25 euro for three hours milking i rekon lads must be knocking down the door to do it for him

Don't mind them, we all take snips out of one another now and agen. As previcoly said there are far to many people sitting on their hole doing notting. I tip down to one of the nabougers now and agen for a chat during milking and help him for notting and same for silage. He dose the same for silage here and we get a loan of a few bits off him now and agen for slurry ect it all works out.

Got 45 a milking for lads I did it for when I was at home and in college.
Get up at half 5 milk other lads cows finished by about 7. Didn't have to feed calves.
Then head home and milk ours or get breakfast and head to college.
Was a good bit of money for the week and I didn't have to ask the father for money then.
Stopped it when I finished college and came home full time.
If ye want the money its an easy 2 hrs work in the morning.

I am looking for a milking job for the summer. I have done 12 weeks milking cows this spring for my work experience for part of my course. And want to learn more what do you lads think I should charge to help someone milking.?
If I was there a few weeks and new the setup there be no problem milking myself. Thanks

Pay my lad 40 bucks a milking,asked him what he wanted and thatcway what he asked for.very reliable and I can go away with peace of mind that cows will be milked correctly and parlour left clean and tidy.took him 3 milkings to learn how it all works and milking time including wash is all done in 50 minutes
Milking is an important job and needs to be done correctly,lads only getting 20 or 30 bucks per milking for 70 plus cows is robbery .in my experience they proably know this and will just come in pick up the few quid in as short a time as possible and out the gap.good reliable help is hard to get

Yep that's gonna be a problem here in a few yrs. No one around with a remote interest in milking.
I'd say I'd sooner get a lad from the town that would be more keen compared to a local

if you are only learning the ropes and wanted a job, i wouldnt charge for the first few milkings and they agree a rate
