    I have something similar. I'm using the bike for my easy miles. The physio just said I had to manage the load until the tendon got used to it. Moving the long run to grass has helped a lot.

    Said I'd throw in a few questions here instead of creating a thread, hope that's OK.

    Recommendations for a decent pair of runners I can get online or instore? Booked in for my first half and full marathon in Dublin this September and October so looking to buy soon to have them broken in :) Some nice Asics Gel ones on sale on sports direct for 40 - 50 euro half price Atm.

    Best recommended 16 week marathon plan? Currently do in 3 short runs a week (5-10km) with 1 day football (60mins, another 4-5km of running according to the watch) and 2 or 3 days in the gym. Looking to build up the milage, most I've ever run in one run is 14km.

    I'm sure I'll have lots of other questions when they pop into my head!

    You're better off trying a few pairs yourself or getting a gait analysis done. Everyone is different. I do all my runs in racing flats for example, that could leave someone else injured.

    Thank you! I actually posted in there a few minutes after I put up that post. I'm going to follow the beginners plan there. (starting 24/06 but I will get the ball rolling and count weekly milage from next week)

    Is the gait analysis the one Elverys have in store? Would be interested in trying that out instead of getting a pair that irritated me.

    I'd be more inclined to try some of the specialist running shops for gait analysis. Runhub is my go to shop but lots of good reports about Amphibian King as well.

    If Dublin based, I'd recommend going to a running specialist shop for the shoes. Although I think the drop and comfort is more important than anything else.
    On the plan its hard to say but you can go wrong following the boards beginners plan. You can search back previous years to see what's ahead of you.

    I'm currently training for my first full, and while I know I can physically complete it in my target time, I feel terrible anxiety around my psychological ability to finish. Is this normal?

    Very much so! The first marathon anxiety extended to having nightmares about showing up at the wrong time for me.

    No expert on it but I think Garmin have a generic HRM strap that works across all their watches. I say that because I got one from a running buddy who didn't want his, I had a Garmin Forerunner 15 at the time and he had a different model but the HRM worked for both watches

    Where to now? I have just completed the HH HM plan - well almost completed it. I did the second last week with the LSR of 16k. I plan to do a similar week this week - maybe another 16k lsr on Sunday although I would also like to do parkrun and give it a good lash on Saturday so maybe that would be too much? (I'm older and have to be careful not to over train!)

    The HM I have signed up for is not until August RnR and I also hope to do the KBC series in the run up to DCM. However, I am stopping short of DCM as have never even done a Half and only did my first 10K in December so don't think Id be able this year. (yes I am lurking on the mentored novices thread and dying with envy!!!)

    So question is where to from here - do I continue with about 20 miles a week where possible and maybe extend the LSR each time? I would like to have run HM distance a few times before the actual event - don't like these plans where they leave you 5/6K short and assume adrenaline will get you over the line in the meantime.

    I have a few shorter distances coming up over the summer too and I am mixing in intervals and hill sessions every week though I have let the old S&C slip a bit recently but hope to rectify that over the summer months. Big thing is to stay injury free and be able to run all summer long.

    So you have completed, or nearly, a HM plan but the HM isn't until August? Would you not look at the race thread and see if there is one coming up that you can do once the plan has finished?

    You are right not to tackle the marathon this year. Get a good base and a few races and target next year.

    I did the HH HM plan for my first half and like that it stopped at 10 miles. Most marathon plans have 2*20 as you don't need to complete the full marathon distance in training, it will give you no benefits. They say a 20 mile run or 3 hours on your feet I think so trust in the plan as it is.

    I could do the thoroughbred half maybe. I don’t want to travel too far and would prefer to do a few shorter races like 10ks over the summer then do the two halfs in August and September while keeping the long runs up most weekends maybe.

    Hi all

    Posted this in the DCM Mentored Novices Thread too but am now thinking there might be more traffic here. If I can't have the same post in two places at once then could the mods delete this one please. And thanks.

    An ultrasound tomorrow will hopefully confirm for sure, but it looks like I have a hernia. Swelling began on Thurs. Went to A&E last night. I'm not looking for medical advice, I will get that tomorrow from my doc, but just in a bit of a mood about it at the moment. My training has been very good and very consistent.

    Just wondering if anyone knows how much of an issue this is likely to be? I've private health insurance so would be hoping to have what needs to be done ASAP. I know I haven't yet been diagnosed and that everyone is different, but am expecting to be waiting 6weeks until I can return to training. Say 7 when you factor in getting the diagnosis and the procedure if needed.

    Boards plan starts in 5weeks if I've done my maths right.

    Am I screwed or am I lucky that it has happened now rather than later?

    Bit of advice plz.

    Have signed up for Day of Irish pbs, really excited about racing 5k on a track.

    For those that don't know, it's a paced event with multiple goal races throughout the day.

    How would you use the pacer if at all if you were targetting a time quicker?

    For arguments sake, let's say it's a 20 min pacer and you were targetting 19:45.

    Stay good and tight to him and let him do the work. Then on the last 800 push on, if you're able.

    The pacer will almost certainly be on for 19.55 with a few laps to go. I would think the 'easiest' way of doing what you want is to stay with pacer and go for home with 2 laps to go. If there is a bunch, try to overtake in the straights and not the bends. Caveat: Never raced a 5k on the track in my life!

    Not advice but opinion. If it is a hernia do most of us not have them and don't need an operation? If you do have an operation I think you will heal quickly enough.

    If you do then mind yourself building up afterwards.

    Thank you aquinn. Luckily I'm not in any pain but I am in quite a bit of discomfort. I would be certain that if this is a hernia, it will need surgery unfortunately.

    Hopefully I will know soon.
