Hey! Just thought I'd start a thread to get some peoples stories :) always nice to see why everyone's aiming for the same thing!

Why do you want to be in the PSNI?

I guess because its exciting, rewarding, not your everyday job, no day will ever be the same, i find the adrenaline rush of being in certain situations appealing too if in honest (public order situations) haha

I'd have to totally agree with pcplod plus it's a good wage and I'll not have to say no as much to the kids lol!!!

I feel a person who's drawn to this line of work with their eyes at least half open to what it entails must have a certain leadership quality to them (or alpha mindset, though that phrase can rile people up). I've found this to be true as moving through the stages talking with others at the IST right through to talking at the medical shows a vast difference in the character of those remaining compared to the general applicants at the beginning. I met several at my medical who I also met at my PCA and they all showed a level of confidence and directness in their characters which I like to fancy myself possessing.

Also what pcplod said. I enjoy problem solving and would enjoy the stimulation and challenge of doing this with situations that change every day

I'm joining for these orgies that are apparently happening* !

Haha, noo it's something i've always wanted, my mother is a Garda and I've always been involved with the blue family ! Rónan Kerr was the actual inspiration and push for me applying to join the PSNI. Having read about his life, he really reminded me of myself, the games we played as kids, hobbies and interests are pretty much identical.

I also love the community, being active on my feet and of course, the adrenaline rushes, the usual stuff!

    * A boardsie was worried about a rumour that he/she heard regarding orgies at Garnerville

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 344 ✭✭LG1985

Think orgies is takin it abit far but there is alota "relations" that go on within the PSNI .. Lol!!

Ronan was a star .. As was Philippa .. Diff circumstances in relation to their deaths tho :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 80 ✭✭MissJC13

Seems like lots of people have the same mindset! And everyone seems to like a bit of Craic so that's always good haha :)

Lol Ahhh the orgies, sure isn't that why everyone's joining?! Kidding of course, I have heard there's a lot that goes on, especially in HG!

I think that's been a lot of people underestimating it! I've had a trial run at the PCA a while back, I don't think it's changed too much - and it was definitely doable :) I'm sure you'll blast right through it!

Sadly, even in the 21st century, they will happen whether you do or don't. You only need to look at the bull**** rumor-mill that happened towards Judith Gillespie, to see proof of this.

I would imagine a resilient demeanour and mind are a must tbh.

Well us ladies will just have to cross that bridge when we come to it. We're more than capable of doing anything the guys can without using our "feminine charms" lmao

Ordinary people doing extraordinary jobs. Always wanted to be a police officer from when I first remember my parents getting home for 5 minutes to get a quick packed lunch then back out on the street during the dark days seeing them in that uniform made me proud. And that's why I'm applying to become that role model that I once looked up to! Good luck all

I quite fancied a job where you'd get no support from the management or public, where I work twenty one days without a day off and where they tell you that you have to stay on duty for an indeterminate time five minutes before the end of shift with absolutely no regard for your personal life, and usually for no obvious reason.

Having said that, it's the only job I'd care to do. Every day is genuinely different and the banter between colleagues can be some of the best you'll ever experience. And sometimes, and I mean once in the bluest of blue moons, you might feel quite proud for helping someone who actually needs you (and hasn't just fallen out with their friend on Facebook and "wants them charged").

Love this post, my parents weren't in the police but I am father to three young kids. The thought that they might one day say something like this about me has made me even more determined to smash this pca which is very soon.
