The sound of violins creates an inner turmoil within me and an impending sense of doom.

A friend, gets similar feelings when he sees wind turbines.

    Whats yours?

Seeing an obviously old dog walking along slowly gives me an overwhelming feeling of despair and resignation.

Oranges and lemons go the bells of St.Clements... my mam used to sing this tune or poem or whatever the hell it is to me at bedtime and I'd cry myself to sleep. Even now as an adult it evokes inexplicable sadness in me.

That and looking in the mirror, although the latter would make most people wail:(

Not exactly irrational but seeing someone sitting alone in a restaurant, now thats where it hurts.

Just looked in the mirror to check! No wailing. Think I'm ok...

Why is that sad? Maybe they just hate errbody and enjoy stuffing their snout alone?

Nothing I like better than sitting in a fancy restaurant on my own munching on my dinner, judging the people judging me.

You win this time, backwards man.

I've had to do it a few times before, it does give much needed time to update your people observing skills.

Might just be that you've only ever heard violins when they piece being played on them was written in a minor key???

Possibly. I dunno if you're familar with Dexter but maybe its linked with each episode ending. I presume this is in a minor.

When I'm on a crowded bus, and everybody else gets off at the same stop, leaving me alone in silence, I feel a very brief moment of abject loneliness.

Sure is. G# minor to be precise. And also to show off.

The early sun rise coming home in a taxi from town alone after a few drinks, I know it's supposed to be beautiful but the loneliness is a real contrasting sickener. :(

I'm not a crier. Didn't cry at my Dads funeral. Only cry when I'm extremely angry. Proper temper cry.

But put on a beautiful opera singer and I'm a snot fest slobbering baller. Ave Maria gets me every time.

Didn't cry at my mother's funeral, but cried on the last episode of Lost.

I presume this in a minor.

Be very, very careful with your capital letters.

This is in a minor is a world away from being in A minor. Possible jail.

I totally get the wind turbines one...or any really large structure. Not so much sadness but the sheer size of things like that make me feel dwarved and insignificant, always unsettles me!

The smell of lillies makes me irrationally sad tho...same with the Auld Lang Syne song. Even hearing it in the middle of the summer makes me well up.

Oh and National anthems....of any country! get goosebumps every time!...

christ, maybe Im a tad emotionally unstable! :)

Maria Callas singing Vissi d'arte makes me cry every single time I hear it - I just looked up the video on youtube and even hearing a 5 second bit of it had me welling up :o

And it's only her version of it, I've listened to a few others and none of them have the same effect on me.

Looking at the motion of a swing or pendulum gives me a vague uneasy feeling in the pit of my stomach and I have no idea why. Especially if it starts to swing off-centre *shudder*

Elderly people struggling in some way. Arrrrgh it's heart-breaking! This city is packed to the brim with them, so not a minute passes without seeing at least one pass by. Killer.

You'll never walk alone, everytime I hear it makes me sad. I don't know why, and I don't even like Liverpool. But even though it makes me sad I love that song.

Sad songs don't really get me, but this along with the ending of RFAD is different. Whereas movies with sad endings can be somewhat sad, this movie ended with
such a sense of hopelessness and despair that can't compare to any other movie ending

Well, until I heard the same song put with a compilation of Nicolas Cage losing his sh1t.

Babies crying, and being ignored. Breaks my heart.

And I'll echo Legs, elderly people either struggling or being subjected to the selfish impatience of younger people because they aren't as fast as they used to be. One day we'll all be old folks, and that's if everything goes well. Elderly peoples time is more important than yours, because they have very little of it left so be nice to them.

Dogs tied up outside shops waiting in nervous anticipation for their owners to reclaim them, for some reason I always have a flash of worry that they're forgotten about.

Might be something to do with the time my parents drove off and left me standing, forgotten in the driveway. The less said about that the better. :(
