Eating Intuitively

Recovering from ED, I have to steer clear of diets, food restrictions, healthy eating regimes and exercise plans, otherwise I start to become obsessive about it and it feeds into my weirdness with food and my body. Something that seems to be very effective and body-positive is 'Intuitive Eating'. http://www.amazon.com/Intuitive-Eating-Evelyn-Tribole/dp/1250004047
I've really enjoyed the book and when I feel I am eating intuitively and listening to my body, I feel much more at peace. Likewise, when I am at peace with my body and treating it respectfully, I am much more inclined to eat intuitively.
Any other Boardsies heard of it? I couldn't find any other threads about it, I'd love to start a support thread for it if anyone was interested.

Probably works if you've been in relatively decent shape since you were younger.

Won't work if you're the kinda guy/girl who will eat anything and everything just because it's there - such as myself.

It sounds like the kind of relationship with food you'd get with after a successful stint with CBT.

Hi Timetoshine, IE is based on the premise that anyone can learn to eat intuitively because the body is good and can be trusted and it knows how to nourish and care for itself. Our relationship with food and body gets broken for various reasons and needs some work to be able to get there but it is possible. Regarding being 'in shape', the aim of IE is not to get thin but to get one's natural body weight.

I'm not really wanting to argue the merits of IE and I am definitely not willing to engage anymore with dieting and restricted eating programmes or exercise regimes, it's been too damaging for me. I'm just wanting to find other like minded people to provide mutual support in the IE process.

Yes any one can do if they understand and practice mindfulness

This is probably the most healthy approach to food anyone can take. Both in terms of body and mind.

Yes, it is quite counter-cultural actually. I'm surprised there haven't been any other threads or support groups about it already on Boards. Anyone up for that?

You still doing this. Something that looks like it's worth looking at
