Worst Photoshop jobs on posters

What are the worst examples of Photoshop you've ever seen on a film poster? One that stands out for me is American Crude, a straight-to-DVD film that came out a few years ago.

Just look at Michael Clarke Duncan's head on that torso!

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Your days are your sonnets.

Well, no. Photoshop isn't ****e, the people editing the above posters are though.

Having some knowledge of photoshop and spending some time practicing making movie posters I can tell you that the vast majority could be thrown together in under an hour. It's shocking how little effort goes into the majority.

Movie poster design for the most part is a lost art, now its all floating heads, the dreaded orange/blue pallette and dull dull dull concepts. I do like the poster for Interstellar though, simple and to the point.

Drew Struzan will forever be the king of movie posters, his work is amazing.

Would love a few of his classics in poster form (can't afford the signed prints from his website).

Empire used to (back when I read it) do a "reimagining" of posters by some artist, some of those were absolute gems, I remember Scream 4 as having a far better 2.0 version than the original.

It was an Olly Moss one.

There are still some beautiful posters being made in fairness. Just look at Inside Llewyn Davis, Under the Skin and The Grand Budapest Hotel.

Exactly. There are some terrible ones from years ago but I guess it's just a case of being exposed to many more films these days, so it becomes more noticeable. Most people are just aware of the classics, which generally have solid designs, so they won't even know about the bad ones.

Another recent poster that I'm fond of is Meek's Cutoff. Was so-so on the film itself but love the design.

I'd almost say it's factually incorrect to say there's no good or interesting poster designs being made today - maybe not the bog standard ones you see on bus shelters, but even if you walk through the lobby of the IFI or Lighthouse on any given day you tend to be greeted with some gorgeous ones. Upstream Colour (sadly bastardised for the home release), Holy Motors, The Act of Killing, Like Someone In Love, The Great Beauty all stand out as having particularly memorable, eye-catching posters over the last few years. Even Frank at the moment has a great poster. Technically more cover artwork than posters, but also look at Criterion or Masters of Cinema who basically have beautiful art for almost every single one of their DVD and BluRay releases. And the latter made my favourite theatrical poster of recent years:

Mondo do some pretty good movie posters, including some classic films as well.

They're all limited runs, so the popular ones usually sell out in a few minutes. The massively popular ones sell out in seconds.

They organised Olly Moss to do a Star Wars run that I was very tempted by, but just thought that I couldn't justify a hundred Euro on three posters to my other half. They're now going for several grand :(

    Their archive is here: www.mondoarchive.com

I've got several of their prints, with Jaws currently hanging in pride of place.

    A little off topic, sorry.

You would think in this day and age you wouldn't have to impose an actors face onto another persons body (lol) or other clearly photoshopped posters.
