We might actually win a game this time! An easy trip to the North to play Glenavon or to Wales to play Aberyrutyehbdww would be nice in the first round.

European time is coming soon. Maybe a mod could just change the title of this to ''LOI Clubs in Europe'' and we use this for all the teams?

Changed, it can be altered if the situation demands/OP requests :)

Cheers, I assume all the teams will now be regionalised now, is that correct yeh?

    Yes.
Although the regulations no longer require the use of regional groups (as used before 2009), UEFA still uses some kind of regionalization in CL-Q2 and EL-Q1. At first the clubs are divided into seeded and unseeded teams, and then the seeded and unseeded teams are split into regional groups. The general approach seems to use the North/Central/South scheme, but no specific rules are known.

Pats have been drawn with Legia Warsaw in the 2nd qualifying round of the Champions League.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,181 ✭✭✭Iang87

they'll draw huge crowds from poland and the polish community here. Any chance they'll move it to a different ground or would pats fans not want it moved

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,681 ✭✭✭✭P_1

RDS would work really well for this I'd say, not sure about Lansdowne mind

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,839 ✭✭✭Jelle1880

Definitely heading down to Dublin with my Polish mate, given the amount of Polish people in Ireland I'd say there's a sizeable Legia following.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,928 ✭✭✭✭Francie Barrett

Avoided Steaua and Zagreb, so at least that's something for them.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,224 ✭✭✭✭SantryRed

Pretty sure the game can't be played in Richmond regardless? Or is it only from the next round?

Doubt their fans will have a say in it, the club will probably (and rightly so) want to get as much money out of this as possible.

It's a big draw for the local Polish community.

The RDS is probably the best option without having to use the Aviva.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,681 ✭✭✭✭P_1

Only potential concern with the RDS is that it might be being set up for showjumping mode when the 2nd round is on.

Legia had large support in Wales last year when they played TNS. Pats would be outnumbered if they move it.

    Great draw for pats fans.

Well that will be interesting, Inchicore has potential to be like a warzone.

Wouldn't fancy being in the away end in Legia either.

Surely they cant play champions league football in inchicore?!

They can play the 2nd round games there but not the 3rd round games if they get through.

    Ugh. Lithuania.

    FK Banga v Sligo Rovers.

    FK Banga for Sligo

AS Jeunesse Esch (Luxembourg) v Dundalk.

Aberystwyth Town FC (Wales) v Derry.

    Lucky bastards, Derry.

Fancy each of the three teams to progress

One of the better draws we could have gotten but still very tough. At least its not a trip into Asia or a match against Steaua or Dinamo. No idea whether the match will be held in Richmond although its hard enough to see it being there with the large number of Polish people in Ireland. Hopefully if it is I can get a ticket.:) One fear I would have if it is in Richmond is if a load of Irish Legia fans get tickets to the home end could be tricky for non season ticket holder Pats fans to get tickets. Tallaght would be an option one stand for us and the other stand for the Legia fans.

Good draw for Sligo. That Lithuania team are 7th atm and would be weaker then Zalgiris were last year. Dundalk have an advantage in that the Luxembourg league is out of season and didnt start back until August last year. Derry also got a nice enough draw as well and an easy trip aswell.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 469 ✭✭hjkl

The 3 Uefa Cup teams got decent draws and should have a good chance of going through. Pats have no chamce imo.

Match will be moved stadium and dates hopefully.

Is this the time of the year again where Pats temporarily get over their diastase for council-owned grounds to beg for the use of one? :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 212 ✭✭shteve

Pity Dundalk didn't get Tromso as they would have been seeded in the next round

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,221 ✭✭✭circadian

Good draw for Derry thankfully, the only issue is that given how this season has gone so far it's quite possible for a balls up.

    Could be RDS either.

See Derry have confirmed the dates home first away second, and are only getting 200 tickets!

Dundalks game might be changed as another team from Luxenbourg is at home first, hopefully it is, as I cant make it if its next week but can go the week after

    For Rovers:

    Cyprus
    Switzerland
    Norway/Latvia
    Ukraine
    Czech Republic

    Great options..

Shakhtyor Soligorsk of Belarus for Derry or the Welsh team

Hajduk Split of Croatia for Dundalk or the Luxembourg side.

Probably a better bet than Tallaght to milk the Polish factor.

Won't fill RDS but probably get more at it than 6000.

Could fill around 3 stands would be more than the Steaua and Hertha match probably.

    Norway. Please.

Don't send me back to Ukraine. I WON'T GO! :pac:

    Phew. Rosenborg/Fk Jelgava v Banga/Rovers.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,837 ✭✭✭NufcNavan

RDS could draw a big crowd. Look at the friendly Ireland played against Poland recently. Poles actually have a sporting culture where they actively follow their team, unlike Ireland.

I'll try and get to either one of the Pats or Dundalk home games, maybe both.

I doubt there would be any real trouble. The irish and polish get along very well

    Full draw for Irish sides.

    Champions League 2nd Q Round:

St Patrick's Athletic v Legia Warsaw (Poland)

    Europa League 1st Q Round:

FK Banga (Lithuania) v Sligo Rovers
Derry City v Aberystwyth Town (Wales)
Dundalk FC v AS Jeunesse Esch (Luxembourg)

    Europa League 2nd Q Round:

FK Banga (Lithuania) or Sligo Rovers v Rosenborg (Norway) or FK Jelgava (Latvia)
Derry City or Aberystwyth Town (Wales) v Shakhtyor Soligorsk (Belarus)
Dundalk FC or AS Jeunesse Esch (Luxembourg) v Hajduk Split (Croatia)

If any of the teams get past the first round, they will struggle in the next round. Derry would possibly have a chance but not in their current form.

I have seen Aber play at home (also in Europe against a Maltese team -Floriana I think.) Lovely ground and will make for a great trip.

Handy first round draws for Dundalk and Derry.

Sligo probably have a 50/50 chance of going through.

Pat's have really drawn a tough side.

Really can't see us doing anything in this tie. I'm hopeful we can put up a decent show though.

Chuffed with the Derry draw. Booked flights to Birmingham + car hire for £70each in total. 3 hour drive to Aberystwyth then, so handy enough. Getting a ticket now will be the struggle.
