Badge Thieves Busted by Gardai

Just wanted to post a positive story about our boys in blue.
I am in work & got a call from the wife saying Gardai knocked on the door at 9.30 to give her the H badge from the boot of our Hyundai.
Seemingly there has been a spate of badge thefts in the Athy area in recent weeks & they were caught red handed this evening at the entrance to my estate with lots of badges. The Gardai took the time to go through the large estate (about 200 houses) reuniting the stolen badges with their owners. It would not have bothered me for that particular car, but can see how annoying it could be to find some scrote robbed the badge from a car.

Has anyone else here suffered badge theft before, & has anyone else ever been reunited with them?

I wouldnt have thought that anyone would go to the trouble of robbing the badge off of a Hyundai, but its great to hear that you got it back! Its just a shame that nothing will be done to the little scrote(s) who took it in the first place.

I thought I'd be safe owning a Rover, but if they're taking Hyundai badges, nobody is safe

Now, now, there has to be some novelty value in a Rover badge.

Some kids do it for a laugh.

Remember an episode of cops years ago where a bunch of teens took badges off like 80 cars and had them all in a bag like nobody would care...

It is compulsory now to remove the first R from all rover badges.

Not exactly a cool brand though.

    From Autoevolution.com:

"The Hyundai logo is just a regular badge at the first sight. However, there are multiple meanings of the "H" letter you're seeing on every Hyundai out there.

First of all, the oval that surrounds the H letter is actually representing Hyundai's continuous expansion that now goes beyond the Asian continent. And the H is indeed coming from Hyundai but, in addition, it also represents two people shaking hands, probably in an attempt to show Hyundai's appreciation for consumers buying its models."

true, they aren't very "cool", but the fella came to the motors forum to tell us a good news story about his car and we've basically slagged him to the core. just not exactly the sound thing to do.

True, however the majority didnt insult the car and the one that did was more tongue in cheek but yes I agree

Dont worry, i fully expected to get slated for driving a Hyundai. I have a thick skin & do not care what badge is on my car. Once it has a big petrol engine, slushbox & leather seats i am happy:D

it pretty much has to be a sonata or an XG then?

Hah good luck to anyone who wants to take the badge of my car. It's all chipped, be doing me a favour :pac:

Remember swapping football cards as a child? Well guess what the new thing is to swap.

Surprised this hasnt been mentioned here before as its common enough these days.

A mate of mine, (now deceased) used to have car badges on his bedroom wall. He had Porsche, Ferrari, Lamborghini, pretty much all the top brands as well as more mundane models.

I don't think the actual kids involved in the OP will go on to selling meth or tying up and beating their elderly neighbours for a few bob. Not excusing them either btw.

I wasnt saying that his car was ****; I was expressing surprise that anyone would steal the badge off a Hyandai when its traditionally Merc badges and red Type R badges etc that get lifted.

The newer generations of Hyundai are great cars. They are a world apart from the Hyundai's of old.

I had the diamond shape badges stolen from the front and rear of a laguna and the centre caps from my avensis.

The badge snobbery here is astounding.

How many of you have actually driven a Hyundai.

They are well priced, well built and stylish looking cars.

Agreed. Back in the day they had their Accent battling it out with cars like Daewoo's Lanos. They've since evolved into an altogether different brand.
