The people behind the username

Do you ever wonder about the people behind the username you see online?

I was unemployed for a period back in 2011 and I spent my days discussing various topics online with strangers on a particular internet forum (not this one however). It was the same group of people I chatted to everyday so I assumed that they were also unemployed or had too much free time on their hands. I spent more time speaking to these strangers than with my own family and friends but I didn't know who they were or even the slightest details of their lives.

My life eventually got back on track and I stopped logging in to the forum as I didn't have time for it anymore. I never said any goodbyes, I'm not sure if any posters even noticed I was gone. However the forum randomly crossed my mind today so I logged in for old times sake and was surprised to see the same bunch of people still chatting away about the same old topics. It was kind of depressing. These guys have thousands of posts to their name. Don't they have a social life or job to attend to? Are they house bound cripples? Are they neglecting real-life in favour of their anonymous internet persona? I sometimes ponder about their personal circumstances.

People talking about the same sh*te over and over is not exclusive to online forums.

Happens the whole time offline too.

OP, I know what you mean, I have seen the same thing, the same posters would be there from early-morning till late night. Is the name of the site AB ? (initials)

Im a mechanic. But... not your usual type.. I wont just tell you something cant be fixed if it cant be. Oh no, I will find a way around that problem come hell or high water. For example, one happy customer had an extremely loud horn fitted to his car because his brakes were beyond fixing.

I think outside the box, folks.

I'm an ordinary 42 year old male in the real world. I'm supposed to vote tommorrow. From the discussion amongst the candidates in the media a lot of muppetry and not much constructive discussion. Here on boards.ie I put the muppetts on ignore. My own claim to fame on boards.ie is that I created a thread here in AH about what boards.ie internet handle ur Alter Ego would have. Cannot find link now.
Also, I'm not located in some film set with Marlon Brando, I actually live on the other side of the River Dodder to Templeogue. Not saying where exactly.

Behind all the corny jokes I wonder if there lies a large community of unhappy people out there...
Do you consider spending hours of your life chatting to strangers online a productive use of time? I hope you don't regret it on your deathbed. You'll never be this young again.

I always assumed it to mean you were *having* a cupcake crisis, such as couldn't get any or burned them or something like that.

    I'm loosing faith in boards.

Scratch that, I lost faith in boards there awhile ago when a gaggle of posters reregged. I'm not sure why it annoyed me so much, but it surly did.

That and I'm growing too old for the sh1t. Too much jumping down people's throats. And I'm guilty of it, I know.
