None. I don't have any. Well, a confirmation one I guess, but as it's not written down anywhere official and I don't have any other middle names, I'm going with none.

One's confirmation name isn't really a middle name though, is it? It's just a name taken on at a ceremony - like the way a nun or monk takes on a new names.

If it's not on your birth cert, it ain't a middle name.

I have one middle name, to go with my one first name and one surname.

I have no middle name. The kids have a middle name each - only used when they're in trouble.

Am I too old to answer this question?

I've got a friend who's middle name is after morphing in to a double barrelled first name, only in the past year, to make her sound more sophisticated Quite annoying really!

    FirstName MiddleName ConfirmationName Surname.

My Confirmation name is Perpetua :D

So I use all except my confirmation name.

Have the same problem. My parents must have used the full name at some stage. It's very difficult to have the names of 2 saints and for it not to sound like they belong to a traveller.

I sometimes used my middle initial in the past, to distinguish myself further from another person with a similar name. Otherwise I'm just Firstname/lastname, I don't usually use a title and sometimes just use my firstname initial to degenderise certain things.

Confirmation names aren't middle names, just a religious conceit.

I've none but had to pick a name for my user id in work as there was already someone there with the same name so I chose zorro. Looking back I'm glad they left it at z.

    I have two.

Last time I got my passport renewed I put them in on the form where it says to do so.

But on the first page (after the plastic photo card) of my passport it says BIRTH CERT NAME: P A J O'R

So everybody who looks at my passport asks 'why does it say that?' Because it was a box on the fcuking form!

    True story. :pac:

I have 4 baptismal names but only use an abbreviation of my first name.
Confirmation names are not middle names.

I have 3 - 2 baptisimal and 1 confirmation. Haven't used the confirmation one since I was confirmed. And only use my second name on official stuff cos there are a couple of people with the same name nearby. One of the joys of living in the sticks - someone else gets your mail :D

I have a middle name. So do my siblings.
Our neighbours got 3 names when christened. We were all so jealous. We felt it was the epitome of POSH.

I once went on a J1 to America and had to fill in a form to get my social security card. It asked for my middle name so I put it in. Dropped the form in and because my middle name didn't appear on my passport I was told I was wrong for putting it in and to fill in the form again.

I've never bothered to use my middle name since.

A middle name and a confirmation name. Middle name is used occasionally on official type stuff, confirmation name hasn't once been mentioned. Useless name.

Is the name you choose for your confirmation or communion ( Cant remember ) listed on any offical documents

I know my First - middle - Surname is on my passport

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,787 ✭✭✭Aglomerado

I didn't take a confirmation name, the namebadge I wore only had the names already on my birth cert. I don't remember being asked to pick a name for confirmation. It's probably just as well. With the religious nut teacher we had we'd have had to take names like Perpetua and Immaculata.

Parish registers keep records of confirmations and confirmation names. You need to be confirmed before a catholic marriage! Canon law states "Catholics who have not yet received the sacrament of confirmation are to receive it before being admitted to marriage,"

I technically have 2, but they're hyphenated. Funny enough, they show up on stuff where I haven't said that I wanted them. And usually letters have my full name on them. But I like them, so its grand.

My middle name is a boy's name. My parents think they're funny, ****ers even put it on my first passport. And no I don't use it.

My brother managed to swing Rodrigo as his confirmation name, it was pretty funny on the day seeing a freckle-faced wee culchie rocking a suit and a big long head of hair with a green streak being referred to as Padraig Rodrigo. It's almost like he wasn't taking the whole thing seriously at all.

I've never been called my first name ever, its always my middle name. Apparently my first name was my dad doing what my mum told him not to do and giving me a stupid first name so.

It used to be said, round my way, when we were kids that Brazilian soccer players only had one name because they were too poor to afford anymore. Truth is, i think they usually have 6-8 names, as is the spanish/portuguese way.

I ended up with 2 on my birth cert, Patrick and Michael after my grandfathers, and Joseph for my conformation.
My mother used to roar the whole lot at me when I was in trouble, which nearly had her so out of breath she'd hardly have the energy to catch me.

Was always told my full name included a middle name but when I actually looked at my birth cert no middle name is on it.

My ma still says I have a first, middle and surname, she just didn't bother including the middle name when registering me.

I have a confirmation name that's never used either.

I have a first, middle & last name (not including confirmation name),

the middle name was my father's first name, and since his passing, I've started to use it a bit more
