How many do you see Ford selling in this stupid country which is one of the most expensive countries to own a vehicle be it insurance or road tax.

Was just looking at this earlier on. I reckon it will sell very well in the UK, and pretty well here.

Pricing will be interesting, I suppose it slots in opposite the likes of the GT86. Would €43,000 be optimistic? I wonder if the V8 will be under the €50k mark.

Main barrier to nice cars isn't tax (although its a factor) but the cashgrab that is vrt.

    i'd have one if

    A) i had the cash

    B) Was left hand drive

    C) came with the real muscle car engine

    D) wasn't refused insurance

    E) Tax wasn't so expensive

    F) It doesn't get stripped of all the good stuff because its being sold in Ireland.

yup, its not gonna work here. Can see it working well in the UK !

No specs posted about it yet. I agree it might not work here but I wouldn't see Ford losing that much money importing a small handful of them each year.

With the Ecoboost engine, the tax and insurance should be frig all in fairness. And I can't see why Irish spec would be any different from UK spec. Selling the V8 here will be a problem.

Any idea what kind of performance there expecting from the Ecoboost engine?

Its not that irish spec is less than UK, its that people opt for the "poverty spec" of each model in such droves that its what most dealers stock and getting higher spec takes more effort than it should.

    When's the diesel launching here?

Around 300bhp but more to the point for the irish consumer what tax band will it fall under.

I think you're being very optimistic here. The GT86 is £25k in the UK and the expected price of the entry level Mustang there is £30k (I'm basing this on a quick online search). I don't see the entry level being less than €50k here, unfortunately

Surely mustangs are all about the classic image? Have to let potential owners know in advance that if they buy one and it doesn't have the whopping v8 with the horns of jericho out the back of it i will be laughing up my sleeve at you from a place nearby..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 656 ✭✭✭christy02

Are they doing a 1.9 daysul version? Bet that would sell!!

    Nice looking car mind.

Get an aul straight through on it for a bit of COOOOOOOOO!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,193 ✭✭✭Cleveland Hot Pocket

Lets hope lots of people buy them here (or at least in the UK) with proper spec and a v8 engine.

That way I will be able to buy one in 3-5 years when the first owner has taken the depreciation hit for me (TYVM)!

Just to clarify these are coming to Ireland and UK in RHD format?

Yes, its a global car, there was a thread on it here a while back.

Let's be honest here. If it wasn't for the eco engines they'd sell feck all in Europe. Power output from the eco is fairly respectable and the new 'Stang is a fair bit smaller and lighter than the outgoing model.

Would still prefer the V8 though obviously. ;)

some more info and (vague) spec options from a dealer here: http://jalopnik.com/the-2015-ford-mustang-will-get-an-ecoboost-performance-1565763273

waiting for the GT500 and in the meantime looking up the best place to sell a wife and kids.

    and house.

    and kidneys. :pac:

Yup, but the question does remain, do you want lots of 4 pot mustangs being sold? I would prefer that they sold lower numbers of cars with the correct v8 (and even v6) engines.

Yes, I'm greatly looking forward to it. :)

Already owned a mustang, was the first car i ever bought, was just after moving to the states, only the v6 as it was all i could afford but it was a manual and i loved the thing. Be interesting to see how depreciation hits these. Few years time would be very tempted as a second car( would need to be serious depreciation though:) )

305bhp. RHD and rwd. Arresting looks.

Wouldn't bother me hugely if it had a 3 cylinder engine as long as it went and sounded good.

The "v8 lhd or nothing" traditionalists who have never and will never own one can go jump in the lake :D

Independent rear suspension! Whomever would have thunk it?

They can order one if they wish.

They can order one if they wish.

"will never" implies in the future.
Not many people can order a 2014 m5 either, doesn't mean they will not own one in 5-10 years?
Can't order a second hand one now.

  • Moderators, Business & Finance Moderators Posts: 17,851 Mod ✭✭✭✭Henry Ford III

    They can wait then.

    Individuals choice I'd say.

Not that I can afford one, but I am loving this news. Would this mean then, that an individual could order a custom model from the USA in RHD, rather than just go with irish poverty spec? Would probably work out the same price for a better yoke too. I would happily go to the land of the free to place my order if:

    *I could afford it.
*It was possible to get the RHD custom
*Enda wasn't waiting at the docks with a bucket of KY Jelly

Its not really in my mind when I'm buying a new car to worry about a potential future owner tbh.

I'll buy what suits me, and a V8 will suit very few people in the UK or Ireland. The 2.3 Ecoboost engine will be more than enough for 90% of Mustang customers.

As a yank tank fan that's had a few V8's I'd be more upset about FWD Bimmers than 4-pot 'Stangs.

I would doubt you can order a RHD model in the US for export, no more than you can order a RHD Mercedes S-Class in the US for Export.

Even if you could by the time you've factored in shipping, customs duty, VAT and VRT any advantage you might have had will have been eroded and lost.

Yeah but it'd be like bmw offering an m5, one with the 4.4 v8 and the other with a 1.6 t.

It's such an iconic car and I'd hate to be the chap who tries to impress car enthusiasts with his wrong engined mustang.

    Cars evolve.

Who'd have thought a 3 cylinder 1.0T Ecoboost engine could power a Mondeo, or Focus, or a Fiesta?

Who'd have predicted that Jag would offer fwd, or Porsche a diesel?

I'd argue that 305bhp is plenty, and that it's the right engine for Europe where fuel economy and emmissions are a greater consideration, but where performance is still key.

The V8 belongs in the USA where it's relatively cheap, and where fuel consumption is relatively unimportant.

The V6 is the odd one out. I can't see where that fits in at all.

I wonder how many people complaining about the eco engine will put there money where their mouth is and buy a V8 first hand. Or will they all be waiting in the second hand market.

Not at all. You have BMW 5 series which is available in numerous different engine types and you have the M5.

Similarly you have the Mustang and the Shelby Mustang. ;)

Which might make some sense is the 2.3T Ecoboost (with identical power but increased frugality) wasn't available.

Yanks are just odd people though presumably. I wonder if MidlandsM has a cousin over there too? ;)

Its not much different to Subaru offering a 1.6 Impreza really. A bit pointless perhaps, but each to their own.

In the states, an economy model is expected to do about 30 mpg and by and large to run on petrol. Over here, we'd want nearly double that and to be run on diesel.

In fairness though, if I could buy gas at $3 a gallon I don't think I would be bothered about economy/mpg either, it would be the fact that the v6 I had just bought would be matched for power by a more economical (albeit FI) 4pot.

Love it. Would hope to see them sold in some numbers over here!

The 2.3 ecoboost makes 5hp more than the outgoing modular V8. The essence of a muscle car is to have a high power output in a light (or what the americans thought was!) car for very little money. The best way to do this back in the day was with a V8. Because of this, the V8 became part of the muscle car. However, today the most powerful, light and cheap to produce engines are small displacement with turbos. IMO the new mustang is still pure to the muscle car as it's a cheap car with big power, but, peoples perception of what makes a muscle car has changed and they mow think it has to have a V8.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,193 ✭✭✭Cleveland Hot Pocket

Well rightly or wrongly, the v8 burble has become part of the muscle car scene.
As much as 1/4 mile times.

But money talks it seems! As the eco car & muscle car fusion that is the ecoboost mustang will sell many more than the v8.

    Much like the 80's 'stangs.

Don't get me wrong, I clearly enjoy a V8 soundtrack over a 4 pot but muscle cars are about going fast for little money. Or at least that is what it started as.

Sorry but the last mustang was bollocks. I drove one while I was in the states last year for bit.
